A bright idea for a hot night!

This week has been unusually hot here – today the temperature reached 35°C (95°F) when ‘normal’ summer temperatures rarely exceed about 28°C (82°F) – summer temperatures ‘in the 80s’ are normally worthy of shocked headlines in the newspapers! On Tuesday night it was very hot and stuffy, with little air movement even late into the night. Little One, lying naked on top of her bedcovers, was wriggling about complaining she couldn’t sleep because she was TOO HOT!! That was when I had a bright idea. I fetched a rubber ‘hot’ water bottle and filled it with cold water. She clutched it gratefully and when I checked again about 5 minutes later she was already fast asleep. I gave another one to Big One who also found it a pleasant relief. In the morning I put the bottles in the ‘fridge ready to use again the next night. Such a simple thing, it doesn’t use any power and little water (since you can keep using the same water!), it’s cheap and lasts for years. I’ve seen plenty of articles about how to sleep in hot weather suggesting various ideas such as an electric fan or putting socks in the freezer; I may be biased but this is my favourite! Good idea Fleur. I do not think we even possess water bottles. My intention tonight is to sleep on the bathroom floor on the cool tiles! I should follow the example of Mad Max our cat he slept in the shower most of the day on the porcelain base!

I guess you could stretch out in the bath! I think I can hear a bit of thunder in the distance here now...

@Fleura It was terrible in the English channel earlier but now it is over Suffolk/ Norwich there is a massive storm. I always check it out on lightning maps . org which gives a 2 second delay of lightning strikes!

That is a great idea and I have used it as a hot water bottle but never thought to fill it with cold water.

We have the same problem right now, very hot. I run a fan in the bedroom, but the cold water is a good idea.

@Fleura yes ma'am, he thought i'd gone a bit o'er the edge. can't freeze 'em coz then 'tis like a brick 'n prone to tearin'. 'tis nice to've somethin' that doesn't sweat 'n these 've some sort'a cloth o'er?? so's such's not'n issue.

The rubber ‘hot’ water bottle did do its work ! It must be due to global warming,we are expecting 37 C over next few days.

Thanks! I'm a genius of course : ) Seriously, we just have them in the cupboard and use them in winter, with hot water then obviously, so I just thought it would be worth a try!

That's a good idea too, but don't they make things a bit damp as they warm up?
