Munda Biddi Trail, Western Australia

Western Australia has two world-class trails which attract a lot of attention from hikers and cyclists. I’ve written about the Bibbulman Track before which is for walkers. The Munda Biddi trail is for cyclists only. It stretches for a thousand kilometres from the capital, Perth, to the port of Albany in the south.
There are overnight shelters along the way and the trail passes through several towns. Vince, his brother and the brother’s grand-children rode a section of it some time ago. The section they chose went through some stunning country. The trail mostly followed old gravel roads and tracks through the forest with occasional short sections on bitumen roads. They started from Wellington Weir near Collie and came through the Preston River valley. One of the attractions in this area is Gnomesville which I've written about before.
The track is restricted to pushbikes and travels through some very scenic areas with rolling hills, green pastures and friendly cows in some areas and shaded bush sections where kangaroos or emus are likely to cross your path. If I could only ride a bike a bit better, I’d be tempted to ride some of the trail.

It looks like it would be a beautiful bike ride along the trail. I would enjoy it very much I'm sure, as I am an outdoor enthusiast.
What happens if somebody wants to hike the trail on foot? Are there rules against that, and associated penalties if caught doing so? I think I would much rather hike that trail than ride it. But that's just me. I love backpacking and hiking!

@JudyEv I just want to hike the Munda Biddi on foot specifically because it tells me I can't. Because that's how I roll.

@moffittjc There's always one, isn't there? One that has to go against the grain. If you go on foot on the Munda Biddi, and you know you're not supposed to be there, hopefully you'd get mown down by the cyclists.

It sounds like fun. THe DC area has a lot of great bike trails. My son has ridden alot of them. He loves biking. The thing that worries me is he usually goes at night. He says it is the best time, because it isn't crowded or too hot.

@JudyEv He has a headlight too I think. I guess there aren't many people lurking about trying to rob riders. He said the worst thing that has happened is a few close encounters with deer. He has his phone and a slim wallet.

@crazyhorseladycx Maybe we'll get a tandem bike. Do you think he would notice if I didn't pedal?

@JudyEv even though I am a city girl I do enjoy the peace and tranquility of living here in the countryside.

@Tampa_girl7 I grew up on a farm with the bush almost at our back door so such places always spell 'home' to me.

My goodness I want to ride my mountain bike there. But of course with that long stretch, I need to practice intensively to reach the finish line.

I've convinced my husband to haul our bikes along on our vacation next week.
Several years ago we did a section of the Virginia Creeper, a trail that follows an old rail-bed for a good distance (nowhere near 1000km though). It was all downhill and my husband seems to think that faster is better...I was pretty sure I was going to crash spectacularly. Thankfully, the worst that happened was having to stop twice to retrieve my water bottle that bounced completely out of the holder mounted to the frame of my bike.

Haha, you did well - and I love the name 'Virginia Creeper'. It sounds like a plant. I'm glad you didn't crash. The guy piloting our canal boat was all about speed, just wanting to get from a to b as fast as possible which was a bit of a shame. No smelling the roses for him!
