Frequent Flier Miles with Airlines

I am an avid traveler...When I am not planning one trip, I am planning another. Or on a trip. Or making lists or daydreaming about other trips I need to take and when I can take them. Most of my trips the past couple of years have been what I consider "power trips" - I go somewhere for 3-4 days, explore the heck out of it, do hiking and see nature, and go home exhausted (but CONTENT!) Last year I took either 5 or 6 roundtrip flights, which was my record, but I recently started a job where I get a little bit more PTO (paid time off), so what the heck! Despite all this flying, I have never yet had any type of frequent flier accounts with any of the major airlines in the US. I personally frequent Sun Country and Delta (although I prefer Delta, but it is more expensive). Honestly I did not KNOW until recently that you could accrue frequent flier points without having credit cards through those airlines. In short, I signed up for Sun Country's frequent flier program, and I also signed up and got approved for Delta's Gold Skymiles AMEX. They were having a promotion if you bought a pair of Delta tickets when opening the credit card, you would get a $200 statement credit. Why not? The annual fee is $95 and the APR is not great. I will try it for a year or so, not hold a balance, and see if it is worthwhile. I hate having to pay ANY annual fee. Unless the rewards make it worthwhile. Now I will have TWO frequent flier accounts set up, so I better start flying! Do you have any? Do you reep the benefits of any of them? Do share.

I wish I could like driving road trips more. I don't love driving, and i get super bored/antsy...Ha. But what's nice about flying is it doesn't take 17 hours to get from Minnesota to Utah, only 2 1/2! So, really, you have more time to explore THERE since you are spending less time getting there. But I would like to do a longer roadtrip one day.

Flying is too expensive for me. I once flew a long distance but that wasn't at my expense.
