Charlie isn't well....

Charlie is actually my brother's dog but considering my dad and I actually take better care of him, we just say he is our dog too. My brother does love Charlie but out of the 9 years he has been with us, it has always been such a battle trying to make my brother see that the way he neglects him is wrong. Charlie has never been for a walk. Doesn't even have a leash. Rarely plays with him and if he does it's because I told him to. My brother only just started booking washes and cuts for his dog by himself whereas for 8 years I had to go through hell trying to make him do it or I would just book it myself. Getting Charlie to a vet, though easier now, is still hard to do as my brother is almost always broke YET somehow manages to waste money on bullsh*t things he doesn't even need (movies, fast food, games, statues of random movie / game characters). He does buy Charlie's food and feeds him but on the weekends he sleeps in and doesn't get up to give Charlie his food at his normal times. Way more to add to this list but will leave it there. To sum it up, my brother loves Charlie but is pretty damn selfish and / or clueless on how to look after a pet. Charlie wasn't well earlier in the year and my god!!!! My brother complains about how it was almost $300 to go to the vet yet is completely fine spend $800 on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles statues. He also didn't take Charlie's temperate like the vet told him to. I had to tell my brother to do it. The third night I "reminded" him, my brother got angry and said "Why?" I was like "What the hell do you mean why? Look after YOUR damn dog!" So Charlie is not well again. He had been shivering, panting, not eating or wanting to play and making weird noises throughout the day. My brother took him to the vet and Charlie is seeming brighter but that's because he was given a needle. But the vet said his back is very tense. My brother could have just agreed to an ultra-sound like he should have last time this happened but too much money I guess. See how he is in 3 days. But I swear if I have to remind him to give Charlie his meds and take his temperature....oh I am going to be p*ssed. ****Photo is of Charlie from a few years ago**** Love his smile.

@VivaLaDani13 Dani, I am so so sorry what you have to go through and yes I see you and your dad take care of Charlie. I am so sorry your brother will not be responsible for Charlie. I will pray for you and your dad and that Charlie gets better. I am so so sorry. It makes me sad to read that and how your brother is. He is adorable. It makes me very sad and all that you deal with is not fair to you. I worry about Sophie and contacted the vet because I noticed something on the side of her mouth that noticed awhile ago and told her. it could have always been there but want to make sure she is ok. I want her and I to be together many many years to come.

@Hannihar Thank you so very much. I am grateful for you as you always understand me. I like to be as helpful as I can but I don't like how my brother takes me for granted when I am looking after his dog. I was never even asked to help out. He just assumes I will do whatever needs to be done while at the same time he has called me "irresponsible" in the past. Which is quite funny considering he is completely irresponsible when it comes to treating his only dog correctly. I am sorry for the worry you have with Sophie's mouth. I would love to know what is going on if that's ok so I can know if she is ok or if something is going on. I do hope everything is ok.

@VivaLaDani13 Dani, I understand because I have had things in my life like you have to deal with. No, it is not fair that you take care of Charlie while he has to be told over and over again. Your brother is a jerk but I know what you mean. I do not have a good relationship with my brother or sister. They were never nice to me. I still say I am glad you are there for Charlie. He is innocent too in this and needs someone to take care of you and I guess it is you. The vet was gone till yesterday so have not heard from her yet to see when she can come. I hope I will remember and right now I am just tired of things and it has nothing to do with you if I forget to tell you. Thanks and I hope she is ok. It could have always been there but just noticed it and Sophie would not let me take a picture of her but someone else did for me.

@Hannihar I'm sorry to know you've dealt with similar things. I am only aware of some things you have been through but of course I will not mention it here. I'm also sorry to now know about your relationship with your siblings. My brother can be really nice sometimes but for some reason, sometimes he can just be horrible towards me. No worries if you don't get around to telling me as I know you're already dealing with a lot yourself. I admire you getting her checked out even if you're not sure if it's been there the whole time. No harm in getting it checked out anyway. Thank you for you answer. I do hope you and Sophie are alright today / tonight.

@LadyDuck I completely agree. Both my dad and I have been through this over and over with him. My brother will say "I have had a good thought about it and I understand. I will change." That "change" always lasts like one day. Not even kidding.

@LadyDuck I completely agree with you. It's very sad sometimes but my brother will come home from work and often walks straight past little Charlie. He will go straight to his room to watch TV or settle back into his room without even greeting Charlie. And Charlie often just looks down the hallway as if he is waiting for my brother to come back out. It has made me cry a lot as I can see the sadness Charlie feels.

I'm sorry Charlie is sick again. I hope your brother steps up this time and doesn't neglect his dog. Sorry to say this but he sounds about as considerate as my brother . I know how disgusted you are feeling. Take care.

@VivaLaDani13 It's past time for tough love here. He has lied so much to my mother, stolen money, etc. Now he is forging her checks. We closed the account today. She will not press charges. Will see if the store, where he writes the checks, catches in him in the act.

@kareng Thank you so much for understanding. I am sorry to know that your brother seems similar to mine. It's not a very easy thing to deal with and judging from your response, I feel you really understand what I mean. Thank you. You too!

@kareng That is so nasty! Oh I am so sorry! That really is horrible. I really hope he will get his act together! Do you think it's possible that your mum would ever press chargers?

He is a cutie pie. Look at him. I like his smile too. That's so awesome of you to take extra care of Charlie, even when it's your brother's pet. You're so sweet and one has to learn this from you. Charlie will be good in your good hands. My healing prayers to the little one. He will get back to normal soon..

@VivaLaDani13 Haha.. I understand. That's fine. Just ignore what your brother does. But, I believe, few things/ beings are best when it's in those special hands. You surely have a magic in your hands. Charlie is so lucky. Your brother as well. Keep pampering the poor boy. He needs your time. Don't ever give up.

@smileyhema haha yeah he is just amazing and I love him so much! Thank you for your kind words. My brother never even asked me to look after his doggy. He just pawns him off to me and takes me and Charlie for granted. Thank you so much!

@chrissbergstrom It is really frustrating. And annoys me from all the times my brother has called me lazy or irresponsible even though I take care of a dog who's technically not mine.

Awww, Charlie is so cute! I love his ears! I agree that your brother is very selfish. It takes a lot to take care of a dog and it's a good thing Charlie has had you and your father to take care of him.

@simone10 lol yeah a lot of people comment on his ears when they first see Charlie. They are big. Yes my brother OH he annoys me so much. He will never understand I don't think. I don't think he will ever realise how my dad and I pretty much keep Charlie alive. That may seem way over the top but the amount of times I've had to help out making sure Charlie gets fed on time, gets to the fed, gets clean, clean out his water or give him water him general....my goodness! The amount of times my brother didn't even think about putting water outside during summer leaving poor Charlie going hot and thirsty. So pathetic.

How is he now? Did he get his treatment? We are also dealing with Mimi's sickness. She atopped eating too and isnce she is major foodie we got alarmed. Then she started nosebleed. Dad called me at 1 in the earlyying morning to tell me Mimi is bleeding from nose and brother is concerned. Asked to look it up what to do and possible reasons. Next day called the vet and took her for check up. Fortunately, my brother is not careless with feeding and vet visits. We missed last one due to unforeseen circumstances. However, he lacks patience sometimes and gets upset with dogs which bothers me and Ishu. And he also does not listen to others suggestions in handling tough moments/ situations with dogs. He seems to think he is right. He will scold them into submission rather than trying tricks to get the dog to listen to you. Like I said lack of patience.

@Daljinder He is doing better thank you but I wish that an x-ray or ultra-sound could be done on him as bro hasn't ever done it before and was recommended to him multiple times to take a better look at what may be causing Charlie grief. Poor Mimi. I've never heard of dogs bleeding from their noses before. It sucks that your bro lacks patience as it really is needed with animals.
