No Six Pack Water

Normally you might hear me say, and of course it happens to be true, that at the Dollar Tree the six-pack bottled water in half-liter bottles is not a good deal even for a buck. Typically it is not. But, that does depend on your circumstance, and your intent. First the why the six-pack water for a buck is not a good deal at The Dollar Tree. Of course it's because it makes a 24 pack of water $4. And I don't know about you, but I can usually get a 24 pack of bottled water in half liter bottles for $1.99. And sometimes less, like for example when Menards has their bottled water, regular price $1.99, AND they are also doing their 11% off everything in the store deal—which they happen to do at least once a month. But when I am on the road traveling, while I do bring along a few bottles of water with me from home, I tend to run out. And so I can either go to the gas station and pick up a bottle for a dollar or more, or I can just stop at The Dollar Tree and pick up that six pack for a buck. Now it makes sense to do because of my circumstance and my intent. Now, wasn't that a fascinating post? Really I had nothing else, momentarily, to write about, so I thought I'd just write about that. I will do my best to respond to all of your comments—if I can find the time between now and accepting my Pulitzer. THAT all aside, what's with the NO six pack water title? This particular Dollar Tree I went to did NOT have the six pack water. So I wound up buying a 33 ounce bottle instead. Oh well.

We do our best not to buy bottled water because of the environment; and use water from our refrigerator which is filtered. I realize you can't do that. Thanks for posting.

I could probably get one of those Brita things I suppose, and years ago actually did use one. I COULD just drink tap as well. Unless you live in Flint, the tap water is mostly just fine to drink.

I am glad that you wrote about this. I usually buy a 32 bottles pack. I have ran out at times and pay $1.00 for a bottle. I don't like that at all.

No. Makes water very expensive when it should otherwise be relatively cheap.

It probably does. You probably just haven't noticed it. Their primary brand is Geyser Mist. But they also sell Ice Mountain and Nestle Pur. Come to think of it, it seems nowadays I am hard pressed to find any kind of store that DOESN'T sell water in some form or another.

@scarlet_woman 9pm? Wow. That seems very early for a Walmart to close.

@porwest I understand why you do not want the six pack and want the 24 pack. I found it very interesting and thank you for sharing that with us.

At the Dollar Tree the six-pack does have it's benefits being only $1 and that if you bought six bottles on the go at convenience stores you'd pay more around $7.20.

Well, at least they had water, lol. Dollar Tree is like the anti-Costco. Rather than buying in bulk for many your buying in "buck" for one. For a single person sometimes one of something is plenty good enough. And sometimes, as in your gas station case, Convenience stumps Savings...

@dgobucks226 That is also true. I have always said, it's what makes a market. I mean, you've got Walmart selling notebooks for back to school at 25 cents and Target is selling them for 50 cents. How does this happen? Ah, because a fool and his money will soon be parted is not just a saying.

Very true. So long as people are aware that the cost of convenience is VERY high. Interestingly enough, most people who shop convenience over price have nary a pot to piss in.

I never thought of it that way, but good point! I don't normally buy bottled water myself since we have a water filter pitcher at home.

I have actually been thinking about getting one of those water coolers with the 5-gallon jugs like we have at the office. It's not necessarily cheaper. But it sure saves us from using all those darned bottles.

@porwest That might be a good idea....not sure the price but it would save from always getting the bottles.

@MommyOfEli2013 I am pretty sure it would not save money. But I'd be open to it for that reason alone, just reducing some of the bottles.

Yeah. I suspect they do not have Dollar Tree Stores in Indonesia. I guess they would have to call it a Rupiah Tree.

I have been resorting to tap water these days to save a little money. Not that I am broke. But every penny matters, as they say. It's not the greatest water. But I have gotten used to it anyway.

All that to say they didn't have it. At least you got some water. I didn't know Menards had it so cheap.

Yeah. $1.99 for a 24 pack of Glacier Mist is their regular price. When you get them during the 11% off deal they run only $1.77 and we usually will stock up. They actually had it on sale the other day for $1.95 but they did not have the 11% thing going on. We still picked up a couple of cases. Cheaper even than Walmart. As for the post, it was kind of funny. I got to the end, posted it, and then realized I never once mentioned the POINT of the post which was I didn't get my six-pack. lol. I edited it, but still only added it in the end.

I agree, the only time its a good price is of you only have $1.00, and tax of coarse.

I refuse to buy bottled water. I have reusable metal Klean Kanteens for my water and protein shakes for the gym.

You would think, being the frugal guy I am, that I would refuse to buy it as well. Lord knows tap is way cheaper, although I did start drinking more tap. I've gotten used to it, but we still keep bottled water in the house in any event. It's useful and convenient when we are doing yard work or something and we just grab one quick out of the fridge in the garage.

Some things that readily come to mind are the water, of course. But you can also add in toothpaste, batteries, most of their car air fresheners, the aerosol air fresheners, bleach, and a host of other things.

Whenever I have ever written about bottled water, it often surprises me more people say they don't buy it than say they do.
