Summertime Treats: Ice Pops

Remember those things? We used to make them every day and usually out of Kool-Aid. Ice pops were a favorite treat. Growing up in the south and in the era where you played outdoors during the day, an ice pop was a treasured treat back in the day. It tasted good and it helped cool you off. We made these often if not daily and would rotate the flavors. I loved the blue raspberry flavor, cherry, and strawberry the best. Do you remember making ice pops or did your mom make them for you as a kid? Photo: Pixaby, public domain

My mom made ice pops when we were kids and I'm sure it was probably Kool-Aid. I still love ice pops but now I buy them in the supermarket. I'm fond of the sugar free Tropicals made by Popsicle.

When I lived in the country in my younger years, there was no ice cream truck. Then we moved to Baton Rouge and still no regular ice cream truck. Later, after moving we did have a truck that came into the subdivision. We usually had to chase him down though to get something.

I think I had those only a couple of times. We didn't have the ice pop tray while I was growing up.

I used to make them for my girls. I used Kool-Aid, and juice ice pops for them. I have a couple of ice pops in the freezer right now made out of strawberries and bananas. I put them in the blender and added a touch of water and froze them.

I would prefer the juice pops today. Adding the fruit makes a great treat any time of the year.

I think I remember making those. But I also remember getting lemon ice from the ice cream man and big hunks of ice from the milk man's truck. Yes, I'm from the days of the milk man.

@kareng What I remember now was making ice pops in the ice cube trays with toothpicks in them. I knew we made ice pops; I just didn't remember how until now.
