Day 2
Promise 2
Genesis 4:6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? And why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If you do well, shalt thou not be accepted? And if you do not well, sin lies at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
I’m certain you’ve all been angry at various times. Did you know anger was a sin?
God confronted Cain because of his anger toward Abel. God accepted Abel’s sacrifice and not his.
It doesn’t take much to become angry. A wrong look, someone gaining recognition instead of you, any number of things make a person angry. Often anger leads to thoughts of revenge.
God saw Cain’s anger and told him if he didn’t get control of his anger, it would have its way with him. God told Cain if he could control his anger, all would be well.
God promised Cain his life would be a blessing if he could get control over his thoughts and the intent of his heart toward Abel.
God’s promise to Cain is a promise to you as well. If you control your anger, and set it aside, denying its power over you, God will bless you and you could gain a friend instead of ending up in jail because your anger bested you.
Paul gave a list of those traits that were offensive to God and led the person, not to eternal life, but damnation.
Galatians 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Wrath or anger is a sin against God and has consequences. Those who cannot control their anger will not receive eternal life. This is God’s promise. Take control of your anger and you will do well as God told Cain. However, Cain did not control his anger. It controlled him.
Let’s pray: Father, help me gain control of my anger so I do not sin against you and receive the consequences of my sin. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
