Teacher Work Day 1 Done

Today was the first teacher workday at my school. Other than a short meeting with the other lower school grades, we were able to work on our rooms all day. I was very glad that I went in those earlier days and got a lot of the heavy lifting done then. Today, I was able to concentrate on making my room look nice for Open House coming up on Thursday. I didn't take any photos today, but will when the room is prepped and ready. I hope everyone had a good Monday.

@rebelann In the lower grades most due. I don't have an in-class assistant. Our librarian helps me out now and then with my bulletin board or making copies. Pre-K, K, 1st, and 2nd have full-time assistants in the classroom.

I wouldn't go that far. I have a wonderful part-time assistant who helps me with bulletin boards and posters.

I’m glad you did most of the work early on. School certainly starts early for you. My grandkids are still away in summer camp.

Several years ago, the public schools in this area started this early, too. When they moved back to the end of August, we stayed put. I like it because we get out earlier in Spring.

@DianneN Being a small school with very involved parents, the families know our schedule and plan camps such that the kids are back in time. Some might come a bit late but most of the camps down here finish up at the end of July or early August anyway.

@DWDavis What about children who go away to overnight camp? I know many from Florida go to Maine and New Hampshire for the summers.My granddaughter actually had to miss the last three days of school for camp.

One of my colleagues commented this morning that before we know it we'll be preparing for Christmas. Time goes by so quickly once school starts.

@DWDavis our schools go back the end of August too so my grandchildren are busy soaking up the last of their summer vacations.

The early start will also let me concentrate on updating my lesson plans now that we have our new materials. We have 3 new books this year: Math, Grammar, and Vocabulary.
