Titles I hate. You will hate them too.

I really dislike titles like the above. You know, the ones that are supposed to be titles but are actually two sentences, the first sentence telling you (kind of) what is in the article and the second about how you will react to the article. You know the type. "What did she do next? You won't be able to watch without crying." No information to speak of and if somebody tells me how I'm going to feel about an article or story, you'd better believe I won't feel that way, just to be ornery. Actually, if you title your article that way, I'm not likely to read it. The other thing that bugs me, as a "citizen scientist," is when the title BLOWS UP the situation with SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS phrases that, if you actually read the article, are not at all what it is trying to say. "Yellowstone is ready to BLOW!" and the article comments that as supervolcanoes are something that has never happened in written history we don't really know, and tells you not to worry because it blew 700,000 years ago and could go 700,000 more for all we know. Clickbait. Emotional blackmail. That's what those titles are. What are some of the clickbaity titles that bother you the most?

Often when people ask a question at the end of the post, I get ornery too and refuse to answer it. I do do it myself and you've done it here too. Sometimes I don't mind. It depends on what the writer asks I guess. And, like you, I don't like the ones that seem to say something has happened/is about to happen but it turns out to be long ago.

Well, here we are supposed to ask questions in order to make it a discussion, aren't we? (Ok, that was a question.)

@MALUSE Oh. I thought that it was kind of part of the rules. I don't really like doing them either.

@petatonicsca Yes, it's often recommended and I do it from time to time too. Ask a question that is - and sometimes I'll even answer the ones asked of me.

Some titles are not related to what the article is about but how the author wants you to feel.

I'm not really talking about titles on myLot but in the general internet. Yes, I scroll on by, but wonder if that person listened to their English teachers.
