Day 7
Promise 7
Genesis 9:24 And Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
25 And he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.”
26 And he said, “Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.”
Have you said something to your children in your anger that turned into a prophecy for their lives? Many parents do when they speak negative and not positive to their children. Children go through life feeling abandoned and rejected because they have nothing good to say to them. Words are powerful. They can lift a person up or tear them down.
When Noah and his family left the ark, Noah planted a vineyard and when the grapes were ready, he made wine and became drunk. Ham was the father of Canaan. Instead of cursing Ham because of the disrespect he showed his father, Noah cursed Canaan and all future generations. He blessed Shem and Japheth and said they would increase and Canaan would be their slave.
God listened to Noah because he was righteous in God’s eyes. It was Noah and his family God saved when He brought the flood on the earth.
Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. (KJV)
Does that mean Noah couldn’t do anything wrong? No. It meant Noah trusted God and looked to Him in everything. However, he like everyone else born since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, was born in sin and had moments when he fell short of God’s grace. His drunkenness was one of those times when he didn’t use good judgment.
When Noah woke from his drunkenness, he judged Ham through Canaan for the sin of his father. God listened and blessed Shem who would be the father through whom the Messiah would be born.
Don’t let anger speak instead of love. Let your children know you love them and are proud of them. Your words will lift them up and they will feel your blessing and God’s blessing on their lives.
Let’s pray: Father, accept let the words of my mouth. Fill them with grace and mercy, lifting instead of tearing down. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
