Did you know that the barn owl is a monogamous animal? It's true, they mate for life. However, every once in a while you will find a barn owl couple will include another female in their "play" time.
Another interesting thing about the barn owl is that they do not hoot like a normal owl. Instead they emit a sharp screeching sound. I understand it can be quite loud.
When it is time for the female to produce eggs, which incubate for exactly 30 days, they dig a hole in a hollow in the ground and surround it with debris. She will lay her eggs there until they are hatched.
I find this little creature fascinating and hope you have enjoyed this little look into their life.
