Made Me Think

I love it when a discussion comes up that really makes me think. The post about caged birds is making me think. We have lots of work dogs and yes they are also our pets. They have names and we love them. They spend a lot of time out doing their own thing and at night it is time to head to the barn. They also work the cattle. I believe that the dogs are happy, safe and well taken care of. I can see that many others may see my situation as cruelty to animals. I feel comfortable that our animals are well cared for. I guess I can only speak for myself and accept the judgement of others. I wonder if other people like to read things that make them think and question their beliefs and opinions.

I am against caged animals that are in small cages only to "please" humans. I have no problems with working animals who live in a barn, they are well treated and surely happy.

@Ghosthere2 My grandparents always had working animals, they were not pets, but they were well treated.

Not only are dogs working animals. So are cats. My Petey is a working cat. He comes in the house in the morning (and sometimes the afternoon) for meals but will go outside again to "hunt" for mice and rats to keep them out of the house and out of the neighbors homes too. Our other cat Jonesy also is a working cat and expects attention when we go outside and he prefers his meals outside. He doesn't come in the house at all. His home is Bill's shed and if a larger animal comes around he will hide in the shed where the animal can't get to him. Dogs also are trained for other jobs that take them into people's homes. They have numerous jobs including guide dogs, diabetes dogs (my husband Bill's son-in-law has one that alerts him to when he needs insulin), and also dogs for military vets that served the United States and have problems from having served their country. There are many many ways that dogs have been found to serve humans and the dogs are well cared for and deeply loved. Those that choose to judge that this is cruelty haven't seen the interaction between human and dog. If they were to be with the pair for a few days they would change their judgement and realize that they work as a team and there is a deep bond between human and beast that has saved two lives. And yes the dog does get to "play" like they usually do, I can speak from experience with seeing Maddie and her human interact. Also Maddie is spoiled rotten and there is no sign that she is in the least bit unhappy in her situation. (She even gets to go to major league baseball games that I don't get to go to...and she has been to Disneyland more often than I have ever been. With more pictures taken of her at Disneyland and the Ball games than most humans ever have had taken.) I am an animal lover and I feel as long as an animal is well cared for and happy and safe and loved then they are where they belong. But the moment that I see someone strike an animal I am there rescuing the animal and striking back in the defense of the animal. I know just where to hit a human to get my point across...

@Ghosthere2 I'm not a big hitter, just if I'm pushed into it. I will take on animal abusers without question or thinking about it. The only other person I will hit without even thinking twice about it is my sibling. He was an abuser from day one and abused me unmercifully and to this day I carry the scars of that abuse with me. So your personal parts are safe!!!

Variety is good. I hate to get too stuck on one thing, especially if it is negative.
