Did the universe have a beginning?

There are two options. Either there was a time when the universe didn't exist and, somehow, it came into existence or it is infinite and always existed.
There's a huge problem with the second option: it violates Newton's Second Law of Thermodynamics.
In oversimplified terms, the Second Law says that the universe is falling apart bit by bit. If the universe had no beginning, it would already be infinitely old and would have completely fallen apart. The very fact that you can sit down and read this rules out the possibility that the universe does not have a Creator.

I believe there is a very wise Creator and as the book Genesis shows.. The Bible has proven to be truth in the prophecies that have been fulfilled, and learning about the DNA should make honest people convinced that the Bible tells the truth..

@garysibi I wrote about the DNA a long time ago here, and here is an interesting article I found in jw.org
The amount of information contained within the DNA of just one of your cells is staggering. How do cells use this information and how did it get there?

@buenavida Good article. I was a biology major for a while and studied this in school. I'm not a Jehovah's Witness (I'm Roman Catholic) but I'm also a creationist. If you haven't read it, please read Darwin's Black Box by Michael Behe. He's a PhD biochemist and his book is one of the best refutations of evolution that I've ever seen.

There is no mystery. We already know that the universe had a beginning. Science and the Bible agree.

@garysibi It seems that most scientists agree that the universe is about 14 billion years old.
"The number we get?—?most precisely from Planck but augmented from the other sources like supernova measurements, the HST key project and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey?—?is that the Universe is 13.81 billion years old, with an uncertainty of just 120 million years."

@1hopefulman You are correct but some scientists, in an attempt to write God out of the scenario, have proposed an infinite universe or, an even more ridiculous opinion, a cyclical universe.

The book of Genesis explains that when God created the universe, He created it with the appearance of age. He created fully adult plants, animals and people, not seeds and zygotes. Even the starts and planets appear to be much older than they actually are. They were created to be a sign to us (Gen 1:14) and it wouldn't be much of a sign if we couldn't see them.

Christians speak of the end of the world but it's not the end of the physical world but rather the social systems under which people live. The physical universe will be renewed and the social systems will be replaced by the kingdom of God in its fullness.
