Radical Change of Pace

Going from a summer of relaxed days when I was able to move at my own pace without deadlines and schedules to working 10 hour days of teaching, planning, meetings, grading, and such seems to be a harder adjustment every year. I suppose it's due to the oldage I've accumulated. Working with a great cadre of teachers and the world's best boss (not exaggerating) makes the adjustment easier. Having a classroom full of eager, intelligent, motivated children helps, too. We've all made it through the first week together. The kids are still smiling. I'm still smiling-albeit a tired smile, and the parents seem pleased. 5 days behind us, 175 ahead. How was your week?

@DWDavis I absolutely love it!! I get to be a teacher I always wanted to be, without being a student myself which funny enough I dreaded my whole life. Lol

Don’t say you have a “classroom full of eager, intelligent, and motivated children.” You’ll make other teachers jealous!

I can't take any credit for the intelligence of the children, but I like to think I have a role in keeping them eager and motivated.

My son was groaning on the first day of school (11th grade), and I said to him, don't worry you only have 360 days of school and then you graduate. He looked at me crazy and I explained to him that he only has to go to school 180 days a year. When I put it in perspective for him that way, he told me that didn't seem so bad at all. I guess it's all in how you look at it.
