Went to Panera's Bread for lunch today. Have never been. And have been wanting to try it for awhile. I love all kinds of breads. Disappointed after I got there.
It was like a Starbucks cafe. Nothing like I expected. Customers eating while on their computers and phones.
I wasn't too hungry, so I got a bowl of the Bistro french onion soup with bread. It was good. Nothing great. And I don't plan to go back. Just not my kind of place.
I will say the service was great, everyone working there were friendly and courteous. The place was very clean. But not my favorite.
Have you done this before, gotten your hopes up for something for so long, only to have them torn down? It happens but life goes on. I will talk more on my issues at another time. Life throws us all curveballs. We have to learn how to go around them.
Have a good evening everyone.

It happens all the time. We only have 2 or 3 restaurants that are left in our possibilities column!

I like Panera because it provides reasonably healthy food at fast-food speeds. But, I don't go there for the bread, I love their salads in the summer and their soups and chili when the weather is cold.

@CarolDM I think expectations can make or break a place like that. I particularly appreciate it because of their "no-no list."

Lately no matter where we eat out I am disappointed. Sure sign I need to eat at home more often.

Years ago probably 5 years or so ago I went to Panera with my boyfriend. I just wanted to check out somewhere new. It was pretty good but the ordering process was weird if I remember correctly. Sorry to hear it wasn't a better experience for you.

I like Panera alot. The free wifi is awesome. I love their soups, and my fave is the Broccoli cheese, but they are all good. I also go for their half priced bagels on Tuesday if I am up in the area then.

Sorry you did not like it. Every place is people on their phones and computers anymore.

I was never interested in Panera Bread. I stick with the tried and true.

Sorry to hear that it was disappointing/not what you expected. I have had that happen too, it's unfortunate but part of life. Hopefully it is more rare that it happens though, of course.

That is always a bummer when you have high expectations for a restaurant you have never been to and it is not as good as you thought it would be.

I have wanted to go to a place and then found it wasn't all that it was built up to be-that's a bit of a disappointment. It sounds like you experienced that today.
I have to tell you that my husband and son tell me that I make a great French onion soup, I don't like it so I have to follow the recipe to the letter, and you have to have the correct bowls to get the cheese to melt the way that it has to.

Yes I did. Very disappointed. I have never tried making the soup at home. I have replies and I guess it is time to try one out.
I can see where it would be a tedious soup to make. It has to be just right.
And many other things going on as well. I will talk about that later.
