How 'bout them smoothies?

Do any of you have IBS? I do so I have to be careful what I eat and how I eat it. I know I need more fruit in my diet, but there are so many that don't digest well. So I bought a small blender (used to have a bigger one, but it took up too much counter space) and made my first smoothie a bit ago. I thought it was really yummy (my husband didn't like it too much.) I used frozen sliced peaches, frozen strawberries, peach yogurt, a banana, orange juice, a little cinnamon, and even a spoonful of peanut butter. I want to get some protein powder to make them even healthier. I've learned not to drink too much of it at one time, though, so I put the rest in the fridge for later. (The photo of our cat Gracie is totally unrelated to this post!) Do you drink smoothies? Do you have a favorite recipe?

I'm always meaning to make myself a smoothie but I never do. Your little cat looks so like our Smoky although Smoky had a bit more white on her.

Wow, Smoky really does look like Gracie! Does she like to lick all the time? Gracie wants to be near wherever we are, but doesn't like to be petted much.

I have ISB, it is annoying. I eat many fruits and vegetables, I know which ones I can eat and which not. Gracie is cute.

well now, ms. gracie 'tis a most beautiful feline deservin' the limelight :) much purtier'n a smoothie, lol. that's how i began to get my life back, via smoothies. with the crohn's i've great troubles with my body bein' able to absorb nutrients otherwise. i drink 't least 3 a day. i'll put 'bout anythin' 'nto one, lol. some don't look very 'ppealin' (kiwi/spinach/strawberry fer one), but 'lways taste good. a fav? not really? i do try to make 't least one mostly veggies per day. the pups're quite fond 'f orange juice, naner, strawberries, blueberries, honey 'n avocado. i tend to make 'xtra 'f that durin' the summer. freeze whate'er might be left. makes a nice, coolin' treat. e'en the horses like that, lol.

@1creekgirl they sell those lil zippy thingies that're kin to those freezer pops. those 're purty handy 'n easy to corral'n the freezer. the grands used to love those - thought 'twas a treat 'n better'n store bought, lol. cats can be a tad odd. the resident cat here disliked all folks. wish's odd coz she 'twas bottle fed (orphaned). when she 'twas 'bout 6, she jest jumped'n my lap one day. within the year anybody could pet her, pick her 'p, etc. dunno why the switch? glad fer 't though.

@crazyhorseladycx I would let Gracie come in the house once in a while if she'd let me hold and pet her, but when I do, she runs straight for Nathan's bedroom and gets under the bed.

Those are some great ideas. Even if I make a small amount, it's more than I should drink all at once, so I'll try freezing the leftover. Gracie's a sweetheart, but I wish she liked to be petted more. Nathan, our grandson is the only one she'll let pick her up....he has a way with cats, loves them.

@1creekgirl I am sorry I do not know what IBS is. I had a smoothie once. I am more of a milkshake person with my blender.

Smoothies are really just another name for milkshakes, but usually have fruits or veggies and not always with milk...I use orange juice. IBS is Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Causes stomach issues.

@1creekgirl I consider smoothies to be different than milkshakes. I prefer milkshakes.

Love the cat picture. It's perfect. I have IBS-C and have to make sure I eat fiber...but not too much. No, I don't drink smoothies; but that one sounds good.

You know, then, that it's important what kind of fiber you eat. I told Lori A Moore that it's like having a spoiled brat living in your gut. Since I'm supposed to have smooth foods for the IBS and to prevent intestinal blockages, a smoothie will be a good way to get some fruit in my diet.

@LindaOHio I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to leave out the yogurt unless I can find lactose free yogurt. I don't do well with milk or ice cream. And you are so right about trial and error. Something that's okay today may cause a temper tantrum tomorrow.

@1creekgirl If it works for you, go for it! With the IBS it's trial and error.

I make smoothies occasionally. My favorite is frozen strawberries and banana, milk, and vanilla extract. It's refreshing and pretty filling. I would probably like your smoothie

@1creekgirl Instead of one scoop, I use two scoops. They are like a multi-vitamin for me.
