Another Facebook Grievance

I was perusing facebook before going to sleep last night. There are several groups that I am a part of, some of which do old pictures from another era. I posted underneath one picture and said "I imagine this was staged.."
Well, apparently someone much more superior in knowledge than me had to correct me. You see, apparently it couldn't be staged because "people were whooped with hair brushes back then." That wasn't her exact words, but I simply replied with. "I'm not arguing over the means of discipline. I am saying that the child was most likely not in trouble. There is a lot more going on in this photo."
Before I made this remark she decided to also call me delusional. Well, I went ahead and went to bed. I woke up with another remark from her demonstrating her superiority in intelligence over me. I didn't bother to even comment back.
Apparently (according to this woman), a photograph from the Victorian or Edwardian Era can not be staged if it has a child being spanked in it.
I've attached the photo for your own perusal. Now, tell me, do you think all of this was actually going on, or do you think the photographer staged them?
Source: Facebook Group America in the 1900's, unsure of actual source of photo beyond that.

Yes!
I do believe the lady was either confused or just wanted to fight. I think she may have assumed I meant that the picture was fake, which is a different word and meaning than staged. The original poster of the picture has since commented to the lady and told her that it had in fact been a staged photo.

@amitkokiladitya Yes, I think that the photographer wanted to have a bit of fun with this family. However, I think they had to stand or sit in those poses for awhile, the camera took a long time to develop the photo in those days.
