Come and get warm

The last horse endurance ride we attended was held on a farm. The owners don’t have a house there yet but there is a big caravan that they live in when they go there. What you see in the photo is their fire-pit. Isn’t it a beauty? It is made from the base of one of the those big cement mixers that you see on the backs of trucks.
It holds a lot of wood and creates enough heat for a big crowd of people. You can see a hollow piece of wood in the centre which forms a sort of chimney, at least until it all burns up. This helps direct some of the smoke higher and hopefully away from people’s eyes.
On the left is an iron rod that holds a kettle which can be swung over the fire to boil water. Just behind the fire-pit is a large log which serves as seating. There are three of these around the fire. Behind the log is a big stack of wood waiting to be burnt. As you can imagine, this was a popular place for riders to gather in the cold evenings.

I can imagine many wonderful nights around that campfire! Which now has me longing for colder weather so I can go camping!

@JudyEv I wish I could sit around a campfire every night. That would be fun, and relaxing.

@moffittjc It must appeal to the primeval parts of us I guess.

I am sure. I like the ones that have colored glass at the top, so that the flames are reflected in the glass..too cool
