Hello

Hello, I am new here and I am looking forward to having lots of exciting conversations with you all. I spend a lot of time on the internet and I enjoy writing and taking part in discussions. One of my main hobbies is reading, and I would like to know if it is ok to write reviews on the books that I have read. I also watch a lot of television and I would like to discuss the programmes that I have watched recently. What sort of topics are popular on Mylot and are any particular subjects taboo? Please let me know which subjects are trending on here at the moment.

Welcome to myLot! I think that you'll find this a friendly site with people from all over the world. It is perfectly OK to write reviews of books and TV programmes you've read and watched, provided, of course, that they are your own words and the text hasn't been published elsewhere. For example, if you have published a review of a book on Amazon or in a blog, you wouldn't be allowed to repost it here. If you look at the 'Explore: Most Recent Discussions' listing you will soon see what topics are popular here. You can discuss almost anything as long as you'd be happy doing so in a family situation and provided that you follow the Guidelines. You will find all the official information about the site under 'Help' in the menu under your username.

@lazydaizee Yes, I am the main Admin and Moderator. I handle things to do with the rules and Guidelines. Technical queries, 'bugs' and so on are dealt with by @myLotBugs but I can pass on anything like that to him if necessary.

Thank you for your advice, are you actually part of the admin team who run this site ? I have only been here for a few minutes and I am already enjoying myself. I already feel welcome and part of something that could be interesting to somebody like myself who enjoys writing. I do tend to go on a bit though so I hope I don't end up boring everybody!

I suppose this would include topics that are currently in the news. Does this depend on where the members are from because somebody who lives in the UK might not be interested in something that was happening on the other side of the world. Although, saying that , it might be a good way to learn what is going on in the world.

@Starkinds I do not think my daily routine would be of interest for anybody else to read. Like most people, I do much the same things on a daily basis. But I suppose that writing about my day might be good to look back on at a later date, a bit like writing a diary it may help me to remember some important in the future.

Welcome to myLot. You can write about anything here. The only thing you can't do is use vulgar language. Write about what you love is the best answer I can give you.

@lazydaizee Don't worry about what other members think. There will be posts they like and posts they won't. Nobody can write something everybody likes.

@just4him This is true, we are all different and have our own ideas on what we are interested in. The world would be a boring place if we were all the same.

Thank you. Is it always busy on here. I have known other sites where it can take ages to even get a reply from anybody? What is the best time to visit Mylot , are they busier in the morning , afternoon or evening? I know that the time difference between countries can affect the way a site works.

@Nakitakona Yes it is good to have a username that you can remember. I have often joined other sites where I have made up an unusual username only to forget it when I tried to login the next day. The same thing has happened to me with passwords.

Hello and thank you for the welcome, I do feel at home already. I have just had a chat with you on another discussion and I notice that you call yourself Nocturnal Writer, I did wonder if perhaps you only did your writing at night time, is it night time where you live at the moment. Sorry if I am being nosy but I have seen lots of fascinating and original user names on myLot and I often wonder where people get there usernames from. I expect some of them have interesting stories to tell.

Thanks for the welcome . I do seem to get my questions answered very quickly on myLot, on other sites when I ask something , it seems to take forever to get a good answer and very often I forget what it is I have asked or I lose interest in the site and move onto something else. This is only my first discussion and I have already learned a lot.

I found out about myLot while visiting one of those forums where members write in about the things they do online. As far as I can see, myLot do not let members have a referral link where they can share myLot with friends. Most other sites give you a referral link and pay their members to refer their friends to the site. Have you any idea why myLot do not do this because I could refer a lot of people to this site.

@lazydaizee Do not feel too much concerned about the bad spelling, little by little you will improve. English is not my mother language either. You are right, this site becomes addictive, but in a good way. I joined my lot 4 years ago (the 17th of August 2015), I do not write many discussions, but I interact a lot every day. I love this site.

Thank you for the welcome, so far I am enjoying the interaction and I have had many interesting conversations with several of the members. I have learned lots of new and exciting things about Mylot and the world in general. Does this site become addictive (in a good way of course) because I find myself thinking what to say to people even when I am not online. Another good thing that I am learning is how bad my spelling can be at times, while writing on Mylot I often get a red line under the word that I have written , meaning that something is wrong with the way the word has been spelt. Then I have to think about adding or taking away letters to make the word right. I do get there in the end and hopefully I will learn from my mistakes because sorting out spelling mistakes can be quite time consuming. Anyway, enough about me, tell me something about yourself and how long have you been using Mylot.

I am fairly new here, so I have no real advice! However I have found some interesting people and topics here. I don't know about busy and slow. It seems like there is always something to read write or comment on. It does keep track so most people I am told, go to their notifications and keep the conversations going and reply. It seems to me like there is a very diverse community here and that is fun because I learn new things every day and old ladies like me need to learn new things. So since you love to read, what are the last three books you read and which one would you suggest I read and why? Your turn!

@lazydaizee You made my day this morning. My sister is older than I and she called to ask if "we" had read a book before because she hates to read the book again and then remember at the last chapter she's read it before. I called her and we had a good laugh.

@Ghosthere2 Nice to know that I made your day and that you had a good laugh with your sister. Does your sister use myLot? I tend to notice if I have read a book before when I recognise the characters names and places. It can be quite funny when this happens . I also find that when books are written on the same subject, some of the stories are very similar even though they are written by completely different authors and in different years.

I am also an old lady who likes to learn new things and I think it is a good way to keep the old brain active. In the past I was not really interested in learning new things and now I wish I had learned more and made better use of the things that I could have learned . If only we knew then what we know now. I am currently reading Local Girl Missing, written by Claire Douglass in 2016. When I have finished it I will write a review on in on Mylot.. This may sound strange but I cannot remember the titles of the last three books I have read because when I finish reading books I always take them back to the charity shop where I brought them from. I do go through a lot of books in a year so it is not easy to remember all of them. Like I said , I am an old lady and the memory is not as good as it used to be! I have even been known to buy a book only to start reading it and find that I have read it before.

It certainly does seem like the sort of place that could be fun. Mylot does not seem like the sort of place where people take themselves too seriously . So I am hoping to have lots of interesting and fun discussions. I am always ready to look at the fun side of things and I enjoy having a laugh and making other people laugh either with me or at me .

Thank you for the welcome, and the advice you gave me on topics to write about on Mylot.. It would be interesting to find out what people have for breakfast, dinner and other meals. I often get fed up with eating the same old food all the time, so I hope I can get some inspiration for some new meals. I suppose we cannot write recipes on Mylot, but is it okay to post a list of ingredients if we have made up the recipes ourselves rather than just copy it out of a recipe book. It will also be exciting to find out what people from other countries are eating because a lot of our diet depends on where we live and which food are available to us from our local shops.
