American Chess Day Pet Rock Day 1878 - Emma Nutt became the world's first female telephone operator when she is recruited by Alexander Graham Bell. 1934 - The first MGM animated cartoon is released to movie theaters. 1939 - Lily Tomlin was born. She is an American actress, comedian, screenwriter and producer. Her big break came on Rowan and Martin's Laugh In (1969-1973). If you remember, she played a telephone operator, "One ringy-dingy". Some of her movies - 9 to 5, All of Me, Big Business, I Heart Huckabees and Grandma. From 2015 to the present she has co-starred in the Netflix series Grace and Frankie for which she has been nominated for many awards. 1946 - Barry Gibb was born. He is a Manx-English singer, songwriter and producer. He is the one remaining member of the Bee Gees. His brothers have all passed away. The Bee Gees were one of the most commercially successful groups in the history of popular music. The soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever was a huge success. One of the songs from that album is Stayin' Alive (see below). Barry now performs as a solo artist. 1957 - Gloria Estefan was born. She is a Cuban-American singer, songwriter and actress. She is the lead singer for the Miami Sound Machine. Some of their most popular songs: Conga, Anything for You, Rhythm is Gonna Get You, 1-2-3, Turn the Beat Around, Get on Your Feet and Here We Are.
