Day 30 Promise 32 Exodus 3:1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 2 And the Angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, “Moses, Moses.” And he said, “Here am I.” 5 And he said, “Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou stand is holy ground. 6 "Moreover," he said, "I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. 7 And the LORD said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou may bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. Promises kept are as important as promises made. God made a promise to Abraham to give his seed all the land of Canaan, and promised the same to Isaac and Jacob. God also promised Abraham He would bring Israel out of bondage in 400 years from the time He made the promise. That 400 years included the lives of Isaac and Jacob and the twelve sons of Jacob or Israel as his name became. Joseph went down to Egypt ahead of his family to save them from the famine to come and was made second ruler in Egypt. Joseph died at 110 years, eighty years after he became second in command of Egypt. One hundred years after Joseph died, a new pharaoh rose to power who didn’t know Joseph. He was the one who enslaved Israel. Israel was not in bondage the entire time they were in Egypt, only for a short span of time. Jacob was 147 when he died in Egypt. Genesis 47:28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years. (KJV) Genesis 50:22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived a hundred and ten years. 23 And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees. 24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, “I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” 25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence. 26 So Joseph died, being a hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.” About 100 years after Joseph’s death, Amenemhet I of the eleventh dynasty of Egypt came to power and consequently forced Israel into slavery. Before Israel would leave Egypt, the twelfth dynasty would see the beginning of the pyramids built made of mud and bricks. This dynasty lasted 200 years, though Israel was not in Egypt the entire time of this dynasty. Moses was born during the co-reign of Senusret III, also known as Sesostris III, and Amenemhet III. It was Amenemhet III who ordered the male children killed and thrown into the Nile, but the midwives refused. Sobeknefru, daughter of Amenemhet III, rescued Moses from the Nile and raised him as her son. He had two names, one we all know as Moses, and the other, his Egyptian name – Amenemhet IV. At thirty years of age, he began a co-regency with Amenemhet III. However, he went into exile nine years into the co-regency. (From a post, dated December 15 by gospelclips) From Scripture, we know Moses was forty years of age when he fled from Pharaoh after killing an Egyptian. After some time, God appeared to him in the burning bush and told him to return to Egypt and demand that Pharaoh let Israel leave. God had not forgotten His promise to Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob, and would bring fulfillment of that promise through Moses. God has never forgotten a single promise He made to His people. 1 Kings 8:54 And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven. 55 And he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying, 56 Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant. (KJV) What did God promise you that are you holding onto? God will keep His promise. Let’s pray: Father, Your promises are faithful and true. Help me remember You have always kept Your promises when it seems like You have forgotten. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
