FINALLY!!!! My brother got his bad knee replaced today. He initially injured his knee in the Navy in 1978. Believe it or not, the VA did not do the knee replacement. They're still hemming and hawing over whether he "needs" a knee replacement. They'll probably still be debating it in 40 years. No, instead my brother used Medicare and his supplemental insurance and had a private doctor -- the same one who did his wife's knees -- perform the surgery. My brother's first words were, "It's the first time in decades I've woke up and NOT had pain in that knee." On top of that, he was out of the bed and walking up and down the hall less than four hours after surgery! By the time I got back from lunch, though, he was passed out from the medications. I'm so happy my brother's finally got his knee problem fixed!

I'm so thrilled for him. He's the fourth person in the family (his wife and two aunts) who's had a knee replacement, and EVERYBODY has said the pain relief alone is worth it.

Wow! so happy to hear that. that's so sad to hear that the VA would not do that for him. But that is good he had some insurance. That good he woke up w/o pain.

We can tell you horror stories about the VA. I was given a disability discharge in 1985, but didn't see any specialist for the disability until 2015. The blessing is we're both alive to tell you our horror stories. The sad thing is a lot of veterans are NOT alive because of those horror stories.
