Backyard Hummingbirds and Migration

Snapped this photo of a female ruby throated hummingbird at my deck feeder. I was sitting on the deck steps, camera in hand, waiting on the bluebirds to return to the bird bath.
Instead I got photos of the hummingbirds. They were going back and forth to each feeder. In a few weeks they will start their migration south. But they always return each spring.
Amazingly they remember where the feeders were the year before. Pretty impressive, right!
There are many links to read about the migration of the hummingbirds.

My mother use to enjoy seeing the humming birds, but she never got a picture. This is beautiful, Carol!

aw, great pic 'f her! the returnin' 'dults were quick to lemme know 'f their displeasure o'er the number 'f hummer feeders i'd out this year, lol. from 7 down to jest 2. too many ferals, so some jest passed through. few stayed to nest'n raise their young. i'll miss 'em when they're gone fer winter 'n be'n edge come next spring - giddy fer the 1st sightin' 'f these beautiful 'n quirky lil birds.

@CarolDM yer welcome :) i've spent the last several days tryin' to get shots 'f the males. 've gotten many, jest no good'uns, lol. most uncooperative... yes ma'am, 7 'twas quite a few, though spread out quite a bit. some near the drive 'n other various places. ones where they could dine'n peace without me lurkin' too much with camera'n tow.
most disappointed my cardinal flower vines 've not done well this year. i reckon the prolonged heat too much. the hummers, late butterflies 'n bees 'dore those flowers. used to've hummer feeders close by those. 'twas fun watchin' 'em bounce 'twixt the 2.

@crazyhorseladycx They do not like the camera, too busy for us. They are entertaining to watch for sure. I love it when they stop in mid-air and hover.
I think the heat has gotten to many gardens this year. Maybe next year will be better for all of us.

We enjoy watching the hummingbirds daily. We put a feeder in front of the window that is by my standing desk. They and the butterflies are great entertainment.
