Have You Seen a Butterfly Bush

I have heard of a butterfly bush but up until yesterday, I have never actually seen one. At the beach house, there was a large pretty bush with purple flowers next to the porch suddenly it was covered in butterflies. It was wonderful to watch and I tried to capture them with my phone. I could have done a lot better if I had my camera but I did enjoy watching them with my eyes until Jack decided to squirt the bush with his squirt gun!! Bad Jack lol. As dusk fell there was not a butterfly in sight and when I got up to enjoy my coffee on the front porch they still hadn't returned. However, by the time we were ready to leave for lunch they were back. I really think I am going to have to get one of these so that I can enjoy the spectacle at home.

The more I think about it the more I will likely get one for my yard at home. I love a fragrant bush.

@BelleStarr You won't regret it. We had one not too far from the front porch, and we'd sit out there and enjoy the light scent that it gave off and loved to see the butterflies flock to it.

I have a butterfly bush. It attracts butterfly moths, too- or maybe they are called hummingbird moths. Anyway, the moths are just about as big as a hummingbird. Not joking. Amazing to watch.

@BelleStarr I think the moth that I mean is a garden pest! I enjoy watching them zip around. Their size stopped me in my tracks.

We had two of these in front of the window where my standing desk is. The weather did them in! But, the hummingbird feeder made it. Next house, more butterfly plants.

delighted ya got to finally see one'n witness the magic'n person, hon. i'm greatly saddened the one'f mamaw's lil house perished, she loved 't so. some years back, i'd a monster (8ft tall) pink'un out'n a bed with lavender, pink honeysuckle, germander 'n saponaria . 'twas a most peaceful plantin' with all plants great fer attractin' butterflies, bees 'n hummers. 'd 3 purples'n beds here by the house, too. now that'cha mention 't, i need to gimme some more. i'm so ready fer more color out here late spring thru later summer. used to pick the pink 'n purples, lavender, rosemary, honeysuckle 'n roses to take mamaw fer lil bouquets. 'twas her fav when she lost her sight. the various fragrances most familiar 'n the textures quite soothin' fer her.

I had several butterfly bushes at one point in one of my gardens. That was when I was with my exidiot. I thought to dig them up and bring them with me, but never got around to it. Kicking myself for not doing so now.

There's one in a pot in my garden at the moment but it belongs to my daughter. She left it when she moved to a new home. It's only small as yet.
