Is this art? Or pornography?

I chuckled as I took this photo at the cabin last month. I have been called naive and sometimes miss veiled sexual references in conversation. But when I looked at the water damage to the ceiling in my cabin, there was nothing I could say except, "That looks like..." My brother's friends (note that I say "my brother's" friends) were out of work about five years ago, so my brother arranged to pay them a pretty penny to redo the roof and some joists and studs in the "new room" of the cabin. Nothing had been replaced in about 55 years. Their work was pretty good overall, but they left some gaps in the tar paper roof that have allowed water to seep in, creep along the ceiling joists, and drip down onto the drywall, causing an overall sag in one area and several small "bubbles" like this one. One of my projects for last month WAS to climb up on the roof and try to fill in those gaps with a flexible sealant that was recommended to me by the guy at the Ace Hardware in Lewistown. I won't know until next Summer whether my work was successful.

Looks like a tear in a piece of fabric to me, Horse. Nothing like a taco or whatever else you thought. Couldn't you have poured a bucket of water or two over your repairs to see whether they were working or not?

Taco. Dang you and the horse you rode in on! Now I'm hungry. Well, the bucket of water would have told me that in the short term, everything is fine. But a bucket of water cant duplicate a Winter's worth of snow on a poorly designed (only 5 degrees of pitch) roof with rapid and vast temperature changes. Sigh.

Heh. I haven't touched any of the water damage from the inside. I am NOT an expert in dry wall repair, and my brother can't remember the exact name of the color they used, so I can't repaint, even if we get the ceiling fixed up.

Sigh. I listened to too much Zappa as a child. My mind will always be slightly deranged.

@crossbones27 Wasn't it Tipper Gore (back in the day) who wanted warning labels on record albums with naughty lyrics? Sales of said albums would have soared among teenagers!

I think you should just cut that off and paint that place with some Kilz or another sealer until you decide about a paint job. But people won't look at it and laugh anymore.

@TheHorse You could always paint it a different color. Is there some reason it needs to be that color and no other?

Heh. Well, not much I can do about it from California. I'm just hoping it looks the same next Summer. I'll be bringing some other art work up there next Summer (no bdy parts--jut nature scenes from here in CA), so maybe then I'll seal this and the other areas with issues. I wish my brother had had the foresight to remember the color his wife chose.

@akalinus I want to please my brother and his wife. Also, I like the color. It provides a sense of warmth in a large room without much personality.

As long as he is not fixing what does not need to be fixed....the world would be a safe place.

@vandana7 I have been a good boy and left the ceiling alone. If it does not cave in on me, then life is good.

I only see a water damage, something that should be checked and repair before it gets worse.

@TheHorse When water starts to leak it is always a problem that can only worsen.

It was the same this year as last year. But I still did some further work on the roof.

A ceiling joist attracting water and letting it drip onto drywall?

@TheHorse Pretty much. Had that in our main bedroom until we got the roof replaced.

@wolfgirl569 Sigh. The bummer for me is that this one emerged AFTER we got our roof replaced.

There is this tree that is at the end of the driveway by a rent house, it has a hole that has formed in the trunk, looks just like that. But..... that just looks like you need to fix the ceiling. A year with maybe a leak? That is to long to wait.

I did some work on the roof LAST Summer, and things did not get worse. I did some more this Summer (last month). Maybe things will dry up and I can do some cosmetic repair next Summer.
