Satisfying on all counts

The other day, when I popped to the shop for a few necessary items, I was tempted to buy some reduced strawberries. They were a bit squishy but I thought they would be fine for jam. When I thought about it afterwards I realised that in fact it wasn’t such a great deal as once I’d picked out the ones that were too far gone, the reduced price only worked out the same as their usual multi-buy offer for pristine fruit – doh! Still, the chickens got the really soggy fruit, so they got a free treat, and the jam turned out delicious, so it was all OK in the end. And just to add to my satisfaction, I was able to put the jam into my special strawberry jars. If I run out and find I need to use those jars with strawberries on the lids for plum jam or marmalade for example, it really irks me! So having the right jam in the right jars was very pleasing. I love to make my own jam, I use the jars with no fruits on the lead, so it does not matter which fruit I place inside. I place a label on the jar with content and date.

Usually I do too, but since I have aquired a few jars with decorative lids I like to use them for the appropriate contents!

@Fleura Your jars are beautiful, mine are "recycled" jars. I keep all those of the jams I buy.

@LadyDuck Oh yes mine are all recycled too, I don't know where these ones came from originally, I think I must have been given them when I ran short and had to ask for extras on Freegle!

No, things like that don't bother me, but well done to you for making your own jam. I've never tried it but my mother and grandmother made delicious stuff.

I've always loved making preserves of all sorts, more than I like eating them! Had to cut back because the cupboards were full and I rarely ate jam sandwiches! Now though I have rediscovered the delights of jam with Greek yogurt (like do it yourself posh layered yogurts!) - lovely!

It so happened that you have those jars with strawberry picture on the lids. You seem to be a perfectionist.

@Fleura Same here,I would as soon entirely use the plain lids as substitute strawberry lids for blackcurrant ones.

Not sure that I'm a perfectionist. Jars with plain lids would have been fine, but since I have those strawberry ones I know I would have been annoyed if I'd been forced to use them for blackcurrant jam or orange marmalade!

'm glad none went to waste. the hubs purchased some strawberries not long 'go - not marked down 'n he didn't bother to check 'em. sadly all those'n the center were molded :( purty spendy 's such got put 'nto gomer (the compost pile). i reckon cannin' 'em 'nto the proper jars cuts down'n labelin', so'd be a win 'f sorts. i'm 'lways tickled when thingies come together without lots 'f fuss'n worry.

I've only accumulated them over time when people have given me jars. Makes me happy though!
