Wildest Bird Chorus

I cannot tell you what kind of birds they were because there were about 10 of them all in a row on a cable to the right of my window and it was too far away for me to see them clearly. Then they began to sing and they sang with quite a lot of joy. It must have been the warm sunshine today. As they were singing suddenly it seemed like I knew the melody. Before long their song sounded to me like the song that James Taylor and Carly Simon sang back in 1974 “Mockingbird”.
Well at least that was what my ears picked up and I put the song on YouTube but I doubt it if the birds could hear the melody. They stayed here for a while longer and then flew away and I waved them on their way. “Mockingbird” was written in 1963 and was based on the lullaby “Hush Little Baby”.
When James Taylor and Carly Simon recorded it the song became popular and was on both the Billboard Pop Singles and Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. It also quickly became popular in other countries like Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and Australia.
It is interesting to note that in recent years James Taylor has performed the song with his daughter Sally Taylor by Simon and Carly Simon has performed it with Taylor’s son Ben Taylor. Guess you could say the song now runs in the family.
Who remembers this song?

One of our miniature golf courses has oldies playing so I hear the original by Inez & Charlie Foxx quite a bit.
