Day 38
Promise 41
Exodus 15:24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”
25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,
26 And said, “If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD who heals thee.
When do you complain? Why do you complain? Do you feel people owe you and nothing should ever go wrong in your life?
God brought Israel out of Egypt. He brought them through the Red Sea. He destroyed Pharaoh’s armies in the midst of the Red Sea. God did everything He promised Israel. Yet, as soon as they hit a patch of trouble, no water, they turned against God, complaining and demanding water.
Does that sound familiar? We have a generation who didn’t know the adversity you knew growing up. They don’t know what it means to have lack, to go hungry because there wasn’t any work, to live on food rations because work was scarce. They don’t know what it means to have a job and keep it because you don’t know what tomorrow will bring. We have a generation who has everything they want and expects the best without working for it. They expect that when they hold out their hand, you will fill it with whatever they want. The entitled generation.
Israel felt entitled because God brought them out of bondage. He showed them signs and wonders in Egypt to prove He would do as He promised and lead them out of Egypt with a mighty hand. God also proved He would go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Yet, when the smallest adversity came against them, they complained and murmured against Him and Moses.
God proved them, tested them, to know whether they were ready to follow Him and trust Him as He led them to the Promised Land. However, they weren’t ready to do anything more than complain at the first sign of trouble. However, God as a loving Father, gave them water and appeased their thirst.
It was a small test, yet it showed God the people weren’t ready to follow where He led them. They were ready to sing and dance in the victory over the Egyptians, but they weren’t ready to trust Him for what lay ahead.
It’s easy to see how God came through for us when we look behind at our lives. However, when we look towards the future, the way is dim and the way is unmarked. We are unsure of the path. Every problem we encounter is a reason for distrust.
God proves you too. He wants to know if you will trust Him with the unknown. Will you allow Him to lead the way or will you murmur and complain against Him when trouble comes?
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
14 And I will be found of you, says the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, says the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.
Israel had a history of mistrust in God, yet God always promised to bring them back from their captivity, if they would trust Him.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (KJV)
God further stated that if they would trust Him, obey Him in everything, He would never bring the trouble and diseases on them, He brought on the Egyptians. God told them He was their healer.
God will do the same for you. He will heal you if you trust Him. Trust God today. Take His hand and let Him lead you through the mist of the unknown.
Let’s pray: Father, many times, I am like a little child, expecting everything to be handed to me and crying when things go wrong. Help me trust You with the future. Help me take Your hand as You lead me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

God's commandments are for His people who will be saved by doing what's right in the eyes of God.
