Smart Move, or Bad Timing?

As I do every year, I got my flu shot this morning at work. However, because getting jabbed in the arm with one needle isn't torture enough, I also got my pneumonia shot this morning as well (one shot in each arm). I was proud of myself for taking proactive steps to maintaining my good health... ...until this afternoon when I realized both of my arms hurt really bad from the shots (sore muscles). Then I realized my smart move may not have been done at the best possible time. You see, I have a paintball tournament this coming weekend, and I can't be out there on the field with sore muscles that can barely lift my paintball gun! I'm already handicapped with healing broken ribs, I don't need something else slowing me down as well. But it's only Tuesday, so maybe there's hope for me! We play our first games Friday. What do you think? Should the soreness in both of my arms be gone by Friday? I wonder what WebMD would have to say about it? Oh, never mind! If I look it up on WebMD, the information will tell me I'm dying and need to seek medical attention right away! I'll just take my chances that I'll be fine by Friday. I don't really have a choice, do I? I have an itch on my head. Can someone come scratch it for me? I can't lift my arms that high right now!

My left arm still hurts, but my right arm is already feeling better. Since I'm right-handed, I'm not too worried since it looks like the right arm is feeling better faster than my left arm.

Thank you! They are still sore this morning, but not quite as bad as yesterday. I'm sure by tomorrow my arms will be feeling back to normal.

Ouch, sorry to hear you had to get one in both arms! But hopefully by the weekend you'll be fine....that should be enough time!

Are those shots so painful? I have no experience I never had one. In my opinion the pain should not last more than 24 hours.

The shots weren’t painful, but they stick the needles into your muscles, so it just causes muscle soreness.

@LadyDuck I'm sure you will continue to be fine without the shots. If I had to pay for them, I probably wouldn't bother to get them, but since they were free, I figured it wouldn't hurt to get them. Just a precautionary measure.

You should be alright, two shots in same day not always the best. I think you will be alright by then.

It was one of those days where my mind was distracted by work, and I wasn't thinking clearly when she asked me if I wanted two shots. I really need to start practicing mindfulness!

@CookieMonster46 Yeah, that's the way I look at it. I was there, they were offering, they didn't cost nothing, so I had nothing to lose.

Hey, I'm only like 90 years late in starting to be proactive about my health. Do you think I can undo all that damage I've done over the last 100 years?

@moffittjc I already got my pneumonia shot awhile ago. It is a one time thing for us here. Our flu vaccines will not begin till November this year. I will be getting mine. Healing broken ribs is very bad and to top it with sore muscles good luck with that. I would say how fast do you heal? I am a very slow healer so I cannot make a guess here. Just rest as much as you can.

@moffittjc I cannot remember what they said ours is good for. So is yours also a one time thing and you do not get anymore pneumonia shots? I am glad you are a fast healer.

@Hannihar The pneumonia shot is good for 5 years. I asked what happens if you forget when you last got your pneumonia shot, and they said you can actually get one every year, as it doesn't hurt anything to get it more frequently than every 5 years.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Isn't it a little too early to start thinking about flu season? I don't know, maybe they wanted to get an early jump on getting the shots out to people.

3 days should be enough to heal from a shot i think. I know that they feel sore about a day or 2.

The big question now is....will I get a reaction from the shots? Some people always seem to get the flu after they get their flu shots. That's never happened to me, but it is always something I think about in the back of my mind. And getting a flu shot and pneumonia shot in the same day, I wonder if it's going to overwhelm my immune system?

@moffittjc I think 'normal' may be a bit too much to expect. Let's just aim for - maybe - functional.

Actually, I used that 'excuse' at the pharmacy today when they tried to talk me into a flu shot. I'd just come from having blood work done at the clinic, and I told them I only do needles once per day.

@myklj999 That is the freaking worst when they can't jam the needle in correctly. I'm sure you have a pretty nice size bruise from it.

The nurse must have jabbed me in just the perfect spot on my left arm, because that's the one that hurts the most. My right arm feels almost back to normal again. Thankfully, I'm right-handed, so even if my left arm is still hurting by Friday I'll still be able to function. But I can already tell it doesn't hurt as bad this morning as it did yesterday.
