Day 40 Promise 43 Exodus 20:1 And God spoke all these words, saying, 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them who hate me; 6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them who love me, and keep my commandments. Everyone has rules they must obey whether for home, work, or play. When you follow the rules, everything goes well for you. God has rules too, called the Ten Commandments. In these commandments are the promises God gave His people if they obeyed Him. The first and second commandments concern worship to God. You are not to put any god ahead of God. And, you are not to make anything that represents anything in heaven or earth and worship it. God alone is to be worshiped. How many gods do you worship? You might think you don’t worship any gods but God alone. Yet, whenever you put something ahead of God in your thoughts and attitudes, you give allegiance to that subject. For instance, people seek to gain as much money as they can, thus money is their god. In gaining money, people need to work, thus work is also their god. Anything you put ahead of God is an idol, a false god. God said you are to worship Him alone. Jesus said to seek the kingdom of God first. Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV) What things did Jesus refer to? Prior to this statement, Jesus spoke about food and clothes. Matthew 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things. When you put God first in thought, word, and action, God will give you everything you need for your life. Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. (KJV) This is God’s promise to you. He will take care of you if you put Him first in everything you do. Let’s pray: Father, help me put You first in everything I do, everything I think, and everything I say. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
