As a kid, I remember seeing road runners chasing our car as we zoomed through country roads. It has always been my favorite bird. I have a little roadrunner pin that fastens on to clothing. I don't remember where I got it but have kept it all these years. Roadrunners are considered good luck. People sometimes used their feathers to guard against evil. They can run 15 miles an hour but faster for short bursts. They eat snakes and small creatures such as frogs and insects. They mate for life and are the state bird of New Mexico. They are my favorite bird. Do you have a favorite bird? Tell us what it is and why it is your favorite.

I never thought of the roadrunner as a real bird. That's fascinating to know it is and the information about them. I don't have a favorite bird. I like them all.

It has feathers and looks like a bird. It can fly but it does better running. It is a real bird but you were probably thinking of the cartoon bird. The coyote is a real animal too.

@akalinus I know the coyote is a real animal. I just never gave it a thought because it was a cartoon. Good to know it can fly.

I like robins, too. They are the first bird that we see in the spring and I always rejoiced when I saw one in early spring in the cold north. I don't know if the European robin is much different from the US version.

@akalinus Yes, the European robins are totally different and they come here in Autumn, they leave the mountains and spend the winter in the valleys. They are so cute in the snow.

@LadyDuck They like snow? Wow, that is amazing. I thought all birds liked warm and green places. Do you have a photo of one or more in the snow?

But the coyote had the Acme supply company to fall back on. I always wished I had portable tunnels and holes in the ground.

@Shivram59 Crows do not like people, I think. They often attack people while they are going about their daily business.

It is amazing how people like different types of birds. Did you ever watch smaller birds protecting their nests by chasing the bigger birds away? I have seen two parent birds driving a hawk away. I heard them squawking loudly in the sky and the hawk flew away with the smaller birds chasing it.

@akalinus Yes,I have seen black drongos and crows chasing kites, cats and snakes to protect nests built by sparrows.Once a crow had attacked me when I was climbing a guava tree to pick a ripe fruit. He tried to hit my head with his sharp beak.

I love Cardinals and doves. It is fun to hear the doves cooing. They say that Cardinals are passed loved ones visiting. I have not seen many Cardinals here but did up north.

I don't know if silver ones bring good luck or not. If you have the money, why not? You could always sell it if it doesn't.
