Why Do I wake at 4 AM?

It has become an unwelcome habit to wake at 4 am. This morning I was awake from 4 am to 6 am and then I was awakened by a call from my daughter at 7:30 am. These days when she needs to talk, I am there for her no matter what time it is. It doesn't seem to matter what time I go to sleep, last night I think it was shortly after midnight which means I got about 5.5 hours. I am feeling not so spiffy today. We opted not to go to exercise in the pool. I have spent the day writing a few articles for clients, I have a few more to write and I am taking work from some new clients. I hope that I get a little more sleep tonight!!

I function very well with 5 hours or so but I'll usually nod off in the afternoon if that happens.

I didn't get the chance to take a nap today which is unfortunate but I had a lot of writing to do.

You it's 4 am and I wake up at 3:13, YES! Always the same time, I watch my alarm and it's all the time 3:13 when I wake up. I think there must be a reason.

Yes there must be, it is a repetitive time almost always the same. 4 am again this morning.

@BelleStarr It is surely our internal clock, all the times the same hour.

. You must know that not getting enough sleep ages one rapidly. My younger son is in the same boat as you. Perhaps you both have a lot on your mind.

I suspect that you are right about that, my mind gets working and I can't go back to sleep.

That is very annoying, it seems your body is programmed to wake up so early.

Yes and usually I can reprogram it rather easily but this time it is being tough.

It seems to go in cycles, it happens for a few days or weeks and then I seep fine until 6 am.

@BelleStarr There is probably a reason why this is happening.

I agree with the protein at bed time. It is related to blood sugar and hormones. I also find that my body just cannot handle being in bed but for so long at a time. It starts hurting and I have to get up. I have never been one to sleep very much, though. Without the protein, three a.m. is my wakeup time.

I guess I will try the protein before bed instead of my fruit.

Your body clock must be set for that. Some folks only need about six hours. Six to eight is normal I have read.

I've noticed the older I get, the harder it is to bounce back from a lack of sleep. I know what you mean, though. When our kids need us, we're there for them, too.

I wake at certain times as well. It sure can make for a long tiring day. I hope you get some rest tonight. What type of articles do you write?

Lately, most of them are insurance or health-related. Some are just about products, yesterday was fire screens.

If I don't wake up really early (around 1am) my cat wakes me up. But I do go to bed really early.
