Why are Americans leaving the US?

in 2016 an estimated 9 million Americans were living abroad. That number has continued to increase. I myself moved from Houston, Tx to the Dominican Republic this year. Why do you think so many Americans are living abroad? Do you think we/they consider themselves Illegal Immigrants? Or do only Americans frequently use that term? Have you ever thought about leaving the United States? With the increase in crime and hatred are you still happy to be a US Citizen?

I moved from Houston to get away from the hectic pace of life. And the cost of living is so much cheaper here.

I have considered moving out of the country on a few occasions. Moving to Mexico for instance would make my retirement dollars go much further, though it would also mean learning to communicate in a different language. I could do that. There are a lot of drawbacks to that decision though and it is why I have not made the choice as yet.

I lie in the outskirts of an inner city in Minnesota. The crime is really not as bad as the media slants it, although obviously school shootings are a big problem. Here in Minnesota, using good judgement and staying out of bad neighborhoods is important. Like someone else said- living in a more rural community is a bit cheaper than living in a city (but then again, it might even out with higher wages in the city. I am not sure). I may be embarrassed for the president we somehow got, but not everyone is hateful/racist and criminals. There are a lot of great job opportunities in my city.
Then again, I would consider moving away, although it would be hard to live a distance from family and friends.

Why is the US your dream country? Do you have family living there? Have they told you a lot of wonderful things?

I agree. I plan to travel to the US twice a year. To visit cities I haven't been to and visit family.

@Rover9703 Might I suggest a tour down the Pacific Coast on one of your visits? Especially Oregon, and northern California. Some beautiful things to see. Mostly small towns but they cater to the visitors who come.

I live in England and I have traveled to the USA a number of times. In my life I have met two people that won in the green card lottery. One was an Irish lady and the other came from Belarus. People from the UK can't enter this lottery. Some Americans like to move to the Dominican Republic, Central America or South America. They find the cost of living lower than in the USA.

I am sure the answer is different for each person who moves. How does the percentage of Americans living outside of the US compare to the number of other citizens living outside of their country?
In Canada I meet people who have moved from all over, including from the US.

I am from India. I think the crime rates are increasing day by day in the USA. So people wants to live in a safety place. That's the reason of leaving USA.

Venezuela is currently going through the largest immigration crisis in its history and the truth is that the dream of many is to be able to enter the United States.
