Day 47
Promise 52
Exodus 34:5 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.
6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. (KJV)
Who is God? People have asked that question for thousands of years and few seem satisfied with the simple answer.
Moses asked God to show him His glory. When He did, God proclaimed who He was. God is merciful, gracious, longsuffering (patient), abounding in goodness and truth. He forgives sins and transgressions. He states that in forgiveness it doesn’t mean the person is without guilt. God further states He sees the iniquity (sin) on children to the third and fourth generation.
Every year Israel needed to go before God to confess their sin. Their sin didn’t disappear, but it was forgiven. It wasn’t until God sent His Son, Jesus, to bear the sin of every man, woman, and child, that we are forgiven and cleansed of all unrighteousness.
Hebrews 9:11 But Christ being come a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctified to the purifying of the flesh:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (KJV)
As Christians, you don’t need to bring a blood sacrifice to God to take your sin from you. You only need to believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross for your salvation, and you are cleansed forever. All your sin is blotted from your life. God cannot see it, nor does He remind you of your past sin.
You can rely on God and who He is: merciful, gracious, patient, abounding in goodness and truth. He is God and there is no other, because there is no other name, given among men whereby you can be saved.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (KJV)
Knowing who God is brings comfort and joy and you can go forward in your day knowing God will forgive you any transgression against Him when you confess it before Him. He can do that because Jesus paid the price of your salvation.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you that I don’t need a blood sacrifice for You to cleanse me of my sin. Thank you that I can know who You are: merciful, gracious, patient, and forgiving of all my sin. Let me know the fullness of joy as I walk in Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
