I was reading this story about taxes in the USA and I can't say I was to surprised. It was mostly about fuel tax and they listed the top 5 states when it comes to fuel taxes. They also talked a bit about another high tax, cigarettes. How much do these states tax when it comes to cigarettes? I know those that don't smoke or are anti-smoke could probably careless about the tax or think it should be supper high. Of course if it was something they liked like alcohol or a certain food they would sing a different tune. Either way here are the taxes in these 5 states. 1. California - $0.6120 Gas and $0.8693 Diesel Cigarettes: $2.87 per pack - San Francisco adds $0.75 "Cigarette Litter Abatement Fee." 2. Pennsylvania - $0.5870 Gas and $0.7520 Diesel Cigarettes: $2.60 per pack - Philadelphia adds another $2.00 local tax. 3. Illinois - $0.5498 Gas and $0.6108 Diesel Cigarettes: $2.98 per pack - Cook County adds $3.00 county tax, and the city of Chicago adds $1.18 per pack. The city of Chicago has the highest tax in the nation at $7.16 in taxes per pack. 4. Washington - $0.4940 Gas and $0.4940 Diesel Cigarettes: $3.03 per pack 5. Hawaii - $04825 Gas and $0.5030 Diesel Cigarettes: $3.20 per pack I moved out of Illinois about 6 months ago and into Wisconsin. Wisconsin ranks 16th highest in gas tax. Wisconsin - $0.3290 Gas and $0.3090 Diesel Cigarettes: $2.52 per pack So I am saving some money by living in Wisconsin, not to mention the saving on the housing, lower income tax and sales tax. Wisconsin has a base sales tax of 5.4% and Illinois has a base sales tax of 6.3%. More savings for me. All I had to do was move 11 miles over the boarder and it was so worth it. I'm very glad to be out of Illinois. Do you know where your state lands in the tax brackets? Do you even think about that? Just thought I would share this with you all. Have a good day.
