Its an orange day

Last night hubby came home toting a little pumpkin. It was bruised and rather forlorn but I stuck it in the toaster oven and baked it. I just made a batch of pumpkin bread is what the recipe says but to me its sweet enough to be pumpkin cake. That baked pumpkin turned out to be a stringy dry mess so I put about a cup of it into a blender with a little water and slowly churned out slurry for my bread-cake. At least dessert is made. Now I guess its time to quit playing with sugar and cinnamon and start in on the serious stuff. I'll do that after I dump pumpkin seeds and strings on the innocent hens.

Those strings are the small strings that feed the seeds. One can eat them too and the seeds. Good for the hens to get the seeds.

CarolDM Banana bread is mighty tasty. I didn't have raisins so I chopped little bits of apricots in with the pumpkin slurry.

Pumpkin! That sounds great. I am going to make some crust-less pumpkin pie when I get a free moment.

What kind of a pumpkin was it ? 4 days ago I baked 2 butternut squash (a relative of a pumpkin) sliced them in half, added some garlic, olive oil and silane, baked on 180 c until those got soft. About 40 minutes. They came out tasty and after a while, I ate the seeds too.

@stringer321 Good question. I only know that the pumpkin was free, small and orange-round. Butternut squash is much sweeter. Your idea on how to season a butternut squash sounds very tasty. What is silane? I eat yams every week or so, too.

@stringer321 That sounds very tasty. I have made pumpkin pie and just used ground dates for sweetener. I found it to be plenty sweet.

All I ever knew to do with pumpkins was to carve them.

I bet your hens were in hog heaven. It seems a person can do something with a pumpkin even if it is bruised and all.
