The First Day of Fall - although many of you are still suffering with 90-degree temps and no rain. National Great American Pot Pie Day 1641 - The Merchant Royal, carrying a treasure of over 100,000 pounds of gold, (worth over 1 billion pounds), is lost at sea off Land's End! 1642 - The first commencement exercises occur at Harvard College. 2002 - The first public version of Mozilla Firefox (web browser) is released. 1949 - Bruce Springsteen was born. He is an American singer/songwriter and guitarist. He is known as "The Boss". He has performed both as a solo artist and as the leader of the E Street Band. Some of his better known songs: Born to Run, Born in the U.S.A. (see below), Hungry Heart, Badlands, Dancing in the Dark, Glory Days, Brilliant Disguise, Human Touch and Streets of Philadelphia. He has won 20 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globes, 1 Academy Award and 1 Tony Award. 1856 - Sigmund Freud was born. He was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist and founder of psychoanalysis.
