Chewing Gum Day Ask a Stupid Question Day 1882 - Thomas Edison's first commercial hydroelectric power plant begins operation. 1935 - Hoover Dam is dedicated. 1939 - NBC broadcasts the first televised American football game. 1935 - Johnny Mathis was born. He is an American singer, songwriter and actor. Several dozen of his albums have achieved gold or platinum status. He has sung many genres of music. He has received Grammy Hall of Fame Awards for the following songs: It's Not For Me To Say, Misty and Chances Are. 1943 - Marilyn McCoo was born. She is an American singer, actress and television presenter and known for being the lead female vocalist of the 5th Dimension. She has a 4-octave vocal range. Some of the 5th Dimension's best known songs: Up Up and Away (see below), Stoned Soul Picnic, Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In, Wedding Bell Blues, One Less Bell to Answer, Didn't Get to Sleep at All, You Don't Have to be a Star (to be in My Show).
