My stitches were removed today

I babysat my niece this morning. She slept for at least an hour after her mother dropped her off so that made the time pass a little faster. We did the usual played with Mega blocks, blew bubbles, colored, played with playdough and read 4 books. The new thing we did was I let her paint rocks. I made pancakes for lunch to use the strawberry butter on but it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. I’ll stick to putting it on toast. My niece had syrup on hers. She ate one bite and didn’t like it so she had a banana instead .. which reminded me I left bananas in my van and I’m in bed so hopefully I don’t forget about them tomorrow. I received a box from Amazon today. Inside was the screen protector, phone case and Japanese snacks all of which are for my daughter. You can see the snacks in the photo. I had my appointment at 5pm to have the stitches removed. I was so nervous. I was trying to tell him about my weekend and kept mixing up my words. He removed the bandage and started on the stitches. I felt a pressure pinch then nothing then the same thing towards the end of my toe and then it was over. Not painful thankfully. He put gauze on it and then wrapped some kind of brown stretchy sticky tape around my toe a few times. He said I could shower normally and then put the gauze and tape back on. He said in 3 days to start putting vitamin E Cream on once a day (which I ordered on Amazon once I got home).I wasn’t thrilled that I still have to wear the walking boot for two more weeks. Before I left the office he had me get X-rays done. From 6-8 my daughter went to the Teen LGBTQ meet up. I was able to shower normally for the first time tonight. It felt so good and I am thrilled not to have to take a bath every other day anymore. My hair just doesn’t like not being washed nightly.

@TiarasOceanView I look forward to another one tonight. Which reminds me I need to change the bed sheets. I spent a lot of time on my feet today though so this will have to be the last thing I do until dinner.

@infatuatedbby ouch my childrens father had that too. I didn't need stitches with my wisdom teeth removal thankfully. Were they the dissolvable kind?

@shaggin And in that case I hope you never will need to get stitches or get any removed. The only stitches I had were from my wisdom teeth removal.

You can take the boot off though, right? I mean, you don't have to wear it 24/7 only if you are going to be walking a long way? I had to have stitches twice in my life. I don't recall how either of them felt to be taken out. The first time I was too small to recall. You should try making your niece some banana pancakes. I bet she'd like those, maybe with some peanut butter on it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I take the boot off when I sit down to elevate it on the couch. I have to wear the boot anytime I walk though even around the house. I'm not allowed to walk long distances until the month is up. The toe needs to heal straight so if I walk without the flat boot it might not heel correctly if my toe was bending when I walk. I had stitches in my arm when I was 4 but they put me under anesthesia to put them in and take them out. That's a great idea about the banana pancakes. I love them myself.

@shaggin Oh, well I'm just glad you are able to take the boot off when you are sitting down. I can imagine that it feels much better with it off, not as heavy or itchy from the lack of air getting to it. I'm not sure if I was put under when I got stitches as a little girl, but most likely. My stitches were on my lip as I had fallen down the stairs and busted my lip open. Actually, there's more to the story. My brother and I were 10 years apart (he passed away several years ago) and so he was around the age of 13 when I had to get stitches. My mom was so distraught that she couldn't drive. I was told that he drove me and my mom (and I guess my sister) to our grandparents house and my grandparents drove me to the hospital.

@ScribbledAdNauseum oh wow that was either very exciting or very scary for your brother to have to drive you at such a young age. Hopefully your grandparents lived nearby.

I am glad you did not feel pain, this is one thing done. May be it is safer to wear the boot a little longer, so you do not risk to hurt your thumb.

@LadyDuck the boot is very flat so my toes do not bend at all when I wear it. I assume the toe might not heal correctly if I walked around without the boot because the toes would bend. I definitely don't want to undo anything and wind up having to go through more so I'm doing what he says even though I was on my feet more then I probably should have been today.

@shaggin Listen to your doctor, because the few weeks after surgery are the more important.

It's not healthy to wash it so often, but if that's what you prefer, then I'm glad you can do it again. I'm glad the stitches are out now too. Yay.

@Courtlynn I went every other night and my hair just looked gross. My scalp if I skip a shower gets really greasy and gets a build up on it almost like cradle cap. Washing my head each night is the only way it stays clean looking. I hate it! Thank you!

I am glad to hear your toe is mending well. I can tell you don't complain about that boot. It keeps your toe safe from further injury I would think, I suggest chocolate pancakes for your niece,

@RasmaSandra not much I can do but follow his orders. Two more weeks wearing it though I am not thrilled about. In the end it being healed perfectly will make it worth it.

Is that toe problem due to an ingrown nail?

@Alexandoy nope if it was just that I would cut the nail away from the skin on my own. It is called a hammer toe. My pinky toe curls under the other one so I walk on the side of the nail. It causes a corn to build up and gets so painful I have to go to the doctor and have it dug out. This surgery made my toe straight so I won't have this problem anymore.
