Bias

Lately, the right is making a big thing out of bias, in their rebukes of various charges against them. This is nonsense. Bias exists. It exists whether or not a claim is true.
There is no way any kind of criminal charge exists without bias of some form, or, another.
When police arrest somebody, they have a bias as to their guilt. When a prosecutor prosecutes somebody, or a defense attorney defends their client, bias exists.
When a whistleblower, blows the whistle on wrongdoing, his/her opinion is biased toward the need for wrongdoing to be brought to light.
When a counterintelligence agent, who's job it is to week out intelligence threats, believes somebody is committing some form of intelligence infraction, he is biased. He should be.
As long as his/her integrity is intact, bias makes no difference.
In the past couple of decades, media organizations like CNN, worry too much about showing bias when biased reporting is justified.
Media organizations like FOX news, or MSNBC, (I'm being generous with MSNBC) are biased toward the left or right.
I long for the days of journalists like Edward R. Murrow would call out a politician the way he did with Joe McCarthy. "Sen. McCarthy, have you no decency?".
Claiming bias against a witness is a non-argument for innocence or guilt.

Too a certain extent, I agree. Big media is more and more corporate controlled. Whatever is in the best interest of the overall business, and to it's stockholders, the better.
It's been a big problem in media, as long as there has been media, look back to Wm Randolph Hearst.
I've even seen a quote from the editor of the NY Times where he addressed the issue some 50 years, or so, ago. I have to look that up again.
It's worse now, as media has consolidated so much.
Even "liberal" MSNBC cancelled Phil Donahue, their highest rated show, during the run-up to the invasion of Afghanistan, and Iraq.
People say that lawyers have ruined America, I say it's the MBAs that ruined it.

@tallawah I think it's due to two things, the Magna Carta, and state sponsored media, (BBC), that Great Britain has the most free press in the world. I wish the United States had kept funding PBS. The Republicans did a highly effective job of de-fanging our public news service.
