please add 7, please add 8, but not yet in service?

we ran out of gas for the stove, so we called the landline for delivery, but couldn't get through. thankfully, they also have two mobile numbers so i texted both and the tank of gas was delivered immediately. the brand we buy is Gasul and a tank of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) with net weight of 11 kilos cost 600 philippine pesos as of today or $11.61. our average consumption is 6 weeks. i did hear the news before about changing landlines from 7 to 8 digits, but didn't know it was finally going to be implemented. when i dialed the landline, a recorded message said, "You have dialed a Globe number. Please add 7 before the existing 7-digit telephone number. Starting October 6, 2019, all telephone numbers with area code 02 will become 8 digits in compliance with NTC's order. Thank you." when i dialed the landline again with a 7 before it, another recorded message said, "You have dialed a PLDT number. Please add 8 before the existing 7-digit telephone number. Starting October 6, 2019, all telephone numbers with area code 02 will become 8 digits in compliance with NTC's order. Thank you." when i dialed the landline with an 8 this time, the recorded message said, "The number you dialed is not yet in service." sheesh. sounds like the connection between providers isn't in place yet, or on test mode so it's still glitchy. i would probably have no problem calling other PLDT landlines, but won't be able to connect to a Globe or Bayantel telephone number yet. have you ever had to call several numbers until you finally connected to the person or place you badly need to contact?

Maybe the number you were trying to call is really out of service, I tested my landline by adding 8 and it rang yes or providers had not yet coordinated, between pldt, smart and globe, globe is the odd ball, it's their competitor.

@louievill my phone is smart but prepaid. the shortest our lpg lasts is 4 weeks, the longest is 8 weeks. the dealer is just 2 streets away, open 15 hours every day so it's here in no time. we just put the pot or pan on the hot plate while waiting.

it will probably be glitchy for a while before connections between providers become smooth.

I noticed that too. After dialing it stops before you hear the ringing sound. I think the transition will be confusing. Not all numbers are starting at 8 some are 3s and 7s so you have to know what telephone service you are calling. The first time I used it today I got a busy tone. Then I dialled their old phone number and an announcement was heard prompting me to add a number before the old one. I followed it and I got connected to my desired line.

@hereandthere I do not know but what I am using is a Bayantel line calling to PLDT looks fine except there are times that the lines goes blank. No dial tone, busy tone or anything so you just put the phone down and dial again. If you are not sure what to add before the old number I dial the old phone number and a voice prompt will tell you what telephone service you are calling and what additional prefix number you should dial to call them.

@rsa101 although the gas was delivered immediately, i still tried calling at different times that day just to see if adding 7 will finally connect since their number is globe. sometimes i'd get the messages i posted above, sometimes the message is worded differently, like, "does not exist." eventually i did hear a ring but just put down the phone. here is the link to the news article about it
Wireline users in the metropolis and some nearby provinces need to dial an extra number when making a call starting Sunday, October 6, 2019.

it will definitely be glitchy at the start. 8 is for pldt, 7 for globe, 3 for bayantel. so far, pldt to pldt is okay because we have an aunt who also has pldt and her calls come through by dialing 8 first.

Yes, they really mean that. I think this is why I couldn't call them first hand because Globe was really adding 8 numbers. I Forgot all about it! I think I need to have the land line call my mobile phone.

i was surprised, too, that it has already been implemented but it only covers Metro Manila, Rizal, San Pedro, Laguna and Bacoor, Cavite. you can read about it from this link:

Our regular numbers look like this: (xxx) xxx-xxxx Sometimes a 1 is required first for long distance calls. Of course, it’s even more absurd calling other countries. You must be so frustrated. I hope you get your gas soon.

As the world population continues to grow, it's only a matter of time before they have to keep adding numbers to the system. All those numbers is really going to start getting confusing! I already can't remember most phone numbers. Thank goodness I have them stored in my mobile phone!

Probably better to text them from now on. Mobile is much better than landline I think. I haven't had to dial more than once to get through, but I have had to listen to the recording ticking off a list of numbers to press "for this department" or "for that department". By the time you finally reach a customer service agent you have been on the phone for 20 minutes.

oh, yes. that happens when i call the hospital and clinic. thankfully, they both have mobile numbers, too. i think it makes it easier for the staff also to contact the doctors/specialists since most go around 3 to 5 hospitals. mother uses the landline a lot to chat with my aunts. the connection is clear and time is unlimited without the phone heating up and the battery draining.

@florelway i think getting a landline is harder in the province, that's why it was a big help when cellphones became available, and later internet. what i always liked about landlines is you pay a flat fee monthly and can use it as often and as long as you want (telebabad as we used to say) and it will not heat up or drain the battery. hehe.

@hereandthere our pldt lines here are only those attached to internet. Folks' past times are really chatting for hours over the phone. My late aunt always did that before with us and calling us every morning.

I still remember the old telephone number when I was a kid. It had 5 numbers. I thought that all phone numbers had to be that way until we went to live to the US and they had more. Now in Santiago I have to dial 9 numbers. Fortunately, the first 2 have to do with our city so I know that I only have to remember 7. A long time ago, we used our memory to learn poetry

it depends on where you live. "The current 7-digit phone numbers of PLDT’s wireline subscribers in Metro Manila, Rizal, San Pedro, Laguna and Bacoor, Cavite, as well as those of Globe Telecom and its subsidiaries, and everyone within the 02 area code, will be moved to the 8-digit format, in accordance with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) directive." here is the link to that news article
