Our Saturday mornings

How many of you remember Saturday morning cartoons?
When I was young there was no such thing as cable and we didn't have very many channels to choose from. Each Saturday we would get 50 cents for our allowance and hurry to the store down the street. Now you could buy a lot of candy and other stuff back in the 60's. We would fill our bag with penny candy, potato chips, a candy bar and even have enough for a drink.
We would hurry back home and spend the morning watching all the Disney cartoons and some other ones that came on at that time.
After I grew up and had children, they did the same thing. Since my children are grown, I hardly ever turn on the TV on Saturday morning. Well yesterday morning since I was up real early I decided to see what was on, I was surprised to see no local channels had cartoons on them, the only ones they were on is the cable stations.
I think it's a shame, there are still a lot of people that can't afford cable. I know there are some that are against cartoons for whatever reason, but they never effected my in a bad way. I have fond memories of spending time with my sisters and brother watching cartoons each Saturday.

That's why I can't understand why they took them off. I guess it's because of all the negative type people that what to complain about everything.

@sweetashoney I didn't know they were gone. Too bad for the kids. So many are offended these days for everything!

@CarolDM Well their gone off of the local channels. I'm like you, I didn't know they had taken them off until I was on TV Saturday morning. I hadn't watched TV on Saturday mornings for a very long time. I seen them on a few cable channels but none on any local channels After this, I looked it up online and according to them, cartoons has been off of local channels for a very long time..

I have many wonderful memories of Saturday morning cartoons with my sisters. I think of those times often. It was such a simpler life back then.

Those who can't afford cable usually go with internet and find those cartoons for their kids for free or cheap. I have a cousin who did that or a few years, was able to get cartoon channels for his kids that way. I don't even know if he has cable now to be honest.
I remember those Saturday Morning Cartoons. I would sit in front of The Flintstones and The Jetsons (back in the late 80's and early 90's) while my mom put curlers in my hair.

I do hope those without cable can get them. Like you said and I was talking about, to me cartoons is something that brings fond memories to I would say most people when they are grown and look back at their childhood.

@sweetashoney Yes, I agree. Cartoons aren't as bad as some people like to think they are. I think a lot of kids look fondly back at their innocence and how they loved those lazy Saturdays.

That's about the only time we didn't watch them, was when we were sick. If we were sick we had to stay in bed, back then most people only had 1 TV and it was in the living room.
