Pears Vs Apples

Okay, when I was a kid, a pear had a distinctive taste compared to an apple.
Now, when I eat a pear, it tastes no different than an apple.
Is it just me, or do the two fruits have distinctive tastes, or have they been genetically engineered to taste the same?

They definitely taste different to me. Maybe you're losing your sense of taste?

Even though I also think something must be going on with the crops because I taste the difference from some years ago...both apples and pears do taste differently
