Continuing my series on interesting/strange occupations gone due to societal and technological changes.
"WHALE MEAT SELLER"
You won't see this entree on any restruarant menu in 2019, but back in the 1920's, Whale Meat was considered a delicacy among the poor in cities like New York. As the occupants of the city became more prosperous, the meat fell out of favour and the trade, in the US at least, became past history.
Since commercial whaling has faced opposition for decades, only a very few countries (mainly Iceland, Japan, Norway), engage in hunting whales today. Its consumption has been denounced by detractors on wildlife conservation, toxicity, and animal rights grounds. I would think these additional factors contributed to the end of the whale meat trade in many parts of the world.
Whales were hunted in European waters throughout the Middle Ages for their meat and oil. For thousands of years, Native Alaskans of the Arctic have depended on whale meat. In early America, whalemen may have eaten blubber which they termed "cracklings" or "fritters", and it was said to be crunchy like toast.
If your wondering if whale meat is nutritious the tail and belly contain protein and are low in fat and calories. However, the meat contains a very high level of mercury making toxicity an issue.
So, what do you think? Ready to try a Whale burger?

I didn't taste crocodile burger and probably I wouldn't like whale burger either. I am not really for exotic food so I would just settle for the ordinary rhinoceros burger, waheehee, joke.

Don't blame you. The whale meat craze sounds like a lot of blubber to me....

I'm not really sure wolves go for chickens but I know coyotes do. Most of what I've seen in videos is that they go after large game like deer or antelope or even bison.
Then again if a young wolf found itself all alone it might go after chickens but young wolves generally don't survive if they are all alone.

Yes, similar to other species (the buffalo comes to mind) they have been hunted to near extinction.

Which countries are still murdering whales?
Japan. Almost immediately after the 1986 whaling ban came into effect, Japan launched its scientific whaling programme, widely recognised as a cover for its ongoing commercial whaling operation. ...
Norway. Norway only respected the IWC's whaling ban until 1993. ...
Iceland. ...

@LadyDuck Yes in Alaska the still hunt whales. The Inuit as an example depended on a variety of animals for food, including seals, caribou, fish, walrus, and other sea mammals in addition to whales.

@RasmaSandra Yes, I see your point! I imagine before the government got involved with meat inspections big cities got away with a lot.

Interesting? Your kidding right
I've never seen them on the menu years ago when they were a thriving chain. Now Ohio is the only state with the original Arthurs still in existence.

Whales are now the protected species and killing them is illegal in most countries. Moreover, more and more seafood are getting dangerous to eat due to their high mercury levels in recent years.
