Why I hate cell phones

My ECE teacher friend and former boss is talking to me about events happening at a new preschool where we both work.
She gets to the climax of the story and then...silence. I say, "If you can hear me, I can't hear you. Call me back."
She calls back. Silence. I say, "I can't frigging hear you. Call me back."
Before that, I as in a conversation with my brother in Worcester Mass. I cut it off to answer my local friend's call.
So now I'm trying to decide whether to let my local friend charge up her phone and call me back v. just calling my brother back.
Do you ever miss the days when you could call someone and not worry about "losing coverage"?

We still have a landline and use it almost exclusively.

@LindaOHio That's all I have, and one call at a time (no call waiting).

I have got quite poor hearing when I hear other noises in the background. A relative rang me and I heard loud trains go past. It is challenging to hear all he was saying. My laptop is in my lounge. My mobile phone is currently charging. I usually keep it in my bedroom as an alarm. I have to put it in my handbag. I prefer to use my home phone.

My cell phone has a problem. Many people have told me to pay for another. People who earn 10 times what I receive with my retirement pension sometimes even add: "They are very cheap, you know". i wonder why none of them give me one as a present. I have my normal phone and send and receive calls from that phone.

@TheHorse I do the same, mostly because most people prefer cell phones. But when I want to call, the land line is the best.

@marguicha It's odd that so many people are addicted to a technology that often doesn't work.

We got rid of our land line when we realized all we got were telemarketers and we were paying every month to get them! Now we save $40, but now get those calls on our cell phones.

@TheHorse So true. I block their calls, but it never stops them.

It's especially annoying when you have to go outside in the rain because the signal indoors is poor.
In our old house, my friend who lived just a few houses down the road would text me to suggest coffee - but often I wouldn't get the text until four hours later!

Yep, that's a perfect example. In the old days (20 years ago) she could have just called you (do they say "rung you" in the UK?) on the land line and you would have been enjoying your coffee, chatting, and watching the rain.

I do not call others frequently.
Else I have faced similar situations but have learnt that it is better to let a few things run their own course and not become too disturbed.
However I have seen people ruining their friendship or relation if someone doesn't call back or does not pick their phone at certain time.
