It's time to flee Connecticut

United States

Do you recall the scare that hit Hawaii last year? A message went out warning of an impending ballistic missile to strike the island. Well, back in 2005 the whole state of Connecticut was issued an evacuation notice. It was vague, giving no real reason for the necessity of mass evacuation. It was an operator error that caused this to happen. 11% of the States residents saw the notice live, 63% of residents were 'a little to not at all concerned" whereas 1% of it's people were trying to get the heck outta Dodge (oh wait, that's in Kansas, isn't it?) Same here earlier, people near the beach area was required to evacuate their place for a possible Tsunami, people are very worried and did what they were told. Lots of traffics and all that. And the real deal was no Tsunami Alert.

It creates a mass hysteria, so it is bad when the alert was false.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Exactly. I wonder if people are getting back to their places already.

The likelyhood is that you along with everyone else were trying to leave? Where would you go? What would you do?

Nah, I live in NC. However, yeah, I would have probably been one of those that was preparing to leave, perhaps after looking for other news sources to verify it's validity.

Maybe is it the right place to be. Roads and airports would be paralyzed if everybody was trying to flee at the same time. If most of people do not care then you have a true chance to escape and survive when an evacuation notice is issued.

This Connecticut one didn't seem to cause a mass hysteria but it's true, evacuation does cause congestion. A couple of years ago a friend's aunt had to flee to higher elevation as she lived in the path of a hurricane. Roadways were backed up(some were even closed) and it took twice as long to get to higher ground because of this.

It happened years ago. I do not think it scared many people, and it seems not everyone saw the alert.
