Self-service at the library

I have written about our self-service libraries before. When the librarians aren't there we unclock the door with our library card. There is an alarm in the front door, but sometimes the alarm starts when people haven't done anything wrong. Before we leave we place the books on the self-service machine, and the machine is supposed to deactivate the alarm, but sometimes it doesn't work. I have experienced it a couple of times. One day the librarian was still there so I asked her for help. She tried to deactivate the alarm. It didn't work. She tried again and it still didn't work. She told me to ignore the alarm on the way out and I did that. The second time it happened there were no librarians. I started the alarm on the way out. I tried to leave the books on the machine a little longer (that sometimes works) but it didn't work. I wrote a note to the librarian and left it on her desk. The next day she wrote me an email. She wrote that she had fixed the problem and I was able to pick up the books. The self-service libraries have given us a lot of freedom. We are able to visit the library early in the morning or late at night, but when something doesn't work there is no one to ask and that alarm is SO loud ...but at least we know that the alarm works

The librarians work during the day, but there are no librarians in the morning, at night or on the weekends.

They didn't exist when I was younger, but today many of our libraries have become self-service libraries. Many people love them because it possible to visit them at night or on the weekends.

That sounds like a cool library. If they that here someone would take all the books and leave.

Someone tried to do that here. They removed the books via the windows in order to avoid the alarm. But there are cameras and a computer that saves the names of people who enter the library. The thieves were caught.

Many of our libraries have become self-service libraries, but fortunately it still possible to speak with the librarian. The self-service hours are in the morning, at night when the librarians have left and on the weekends.

Until the alarm is fully fixed I would not like it.

I hope they will fix it soon. It is annoying. Sometimes I do everything the right way, but the alarm doesn't get deactivated.

I've never heard of such a library, but it's great. Hope it fixes the alarm issue.

I also hope that they will fix the alarm. Sometimes it starts when it shouldn't. Aside from that it is great, and it is nice that we can visit the library at nights or on the weekends.

@Porcospino Yes, it is a wonderful idea and it would be nice if all countries had such a library.
