The Bay Area is on fire!

I was worried when I woke up to 30 mph winds this morning. There was a major wildfire to the North of us last night and it is still burning. Today, there are several new wildfires burning in the San Francisco Bay Area, and some of my friends' houses are threatened. My power went out briefly this morning but returned within a few seconds. Horse Jr. and an adult friend (whose power is out) are here now, so I guess my house is a "safety zone." We're watching the news closely. I'm still hoping to make to my friend's house this afternoon, as there is no fire out there.

I didn't take that particular picture. It was taken a handful of years ago, when Mt. Diablo was on fire. I visited my horse, and she didn't seem worried by the eerie orange glow to the Southeast. I was ready to help evacuate horses (I'm good at calming them and getting them into trailers), but that fire never made it to our stable.

@TheHorse The wind has been gusting lately and is supposed to start up again tomorrow, in my area. I hate driving in gusting winds.

@sallypup Driving TO my friend's house was an adventure, with 40 mph gusts. But things had calmed down by the time I returned home.

Authorities just arrested someone. He was driving around and getting out to set fires. I hope you and your house will be safe and the children also.

Thanks. There are a few of them. I'm taking care of personal business right now (meaning I'm spending alot of time on hold) and will check the news soon. Did the Packers and 'Niners win yesterday? I was in the "music zone" and didn't watch any football.

@TheHorse The Packers did. 31-24. I'll check on the Niners. The Niner's won 51-13 over the Panthers. With that score, I wonder if the Panthers were on the field. You really stomped them. I hope things are calming down there and the fires are under control.

I learned this news from TV. It is very scary and it already lasts for several days. And I also heard that there is even power off in some areas. I hope this fire will be under control soon and no more damages. California is a beautiful state and all the best for all of you!

PG&E is making an effort to cut off power in areas threatened by dry terrain and high winds. But nature is still taking its course. I can smell wood smoke from the North as I write.

I did not. It is from a Mt. Diablo fire several years ago. My horse was still alive then, and was (along with her roommates) strangely unfazed by that fire.
