Day 86
Promise 116
1 Kings 3:5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, ‘Ask what I shall give thee.’
6 And Solomon said, ‘Thou hast showed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7 And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?’
10 And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11 And God said unto him, ‘Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honor: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.’
15 And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
What do you want more than anything else? What would you say if someone asked you what you wanted and they had the power to give it to you?
God asked Solomon what He could give him. Solomon asked for wisdom and God granted Solomon’s request and added wealth and long life to his request.
As Christians, God wants to do the same for you. Jesus told His disciples to ask and it would be given to them.
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it shall be opened.
John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.
You bring glory to God when you ask for anything in Jesus’ name, and He will give you whatsoever you ask.
Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. (KJV)
You can see belief will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. (KJV)
However, if you ask for something that doesn’t glorify God, you will not receive it.
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he who wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. (KJV)
God will not give you anything that does not honor Him.
Solomon asked for wisdom so he could rule God’s people. Solomon honored God with his request and God granted his request and also gave him wealth and a long life.
What is your request? Does it honor God?
Let’s pray: Father, let Your Word be my joy and delight. Help me honor You in everything I say and do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
