Alternative Hallowe'en Plans...

Canada

For the past few months, I've been babysitting my best friend's little boy in the afternoons, so she can go to work. This year her work schedule will make it difficult for her to take the little guy out for Hallowe'en, and I have problems seeing and walking, so I can't really do it either. My husband and I got a great idea. We bought him one of those gigantic boxes of his favourite fun-sized chocolate bars, put them in an old Amazon box, and told him that Trick-or-treat would come to him, in the form of a package. Now he feels like a big shot because he thinks he's getting something from the post Office. I'm an Amazon Prime member so i have those dang boxes everywhere. If, for some reason, you don't have the time, or ability to take the child in your life out for Hallowe'en, what are some ways you are going to make the day special for them?

Halloween is creeping into Germany as so many other customs and habits which cross the Atlantic. But it's not really a commonly known thing (yet). So grown-ups don't have such problems as you describe here. Children don't expect anything.

Even when I was a kid it was an "everyone's doing it" kind of thing, and no one wanted to be left out, and thus started the expectation. Also in this day and age, no one is going to let kids go around alone to strangers or even neighbours houses for candy, so parents need to take the time, unless their kids are teenagers.

Thank you. For his Mommy and my husband and I, we still want to spoil him, even if we are unable to participate in a traditional way. Hubby is also legally blind, and has some neurological issues, as a result of a war injury.
